Roger De Vlaeminck Belgian cyclist

Roger De Vlaeminck is a Belgian former professional racing cyclist. He was described by Rik Van Looy as "The most talented and the only real classics rider of his generation". Nicknamed “The Gypsy” because he was born into a family of traveling clothiers, he is known for exploits in the cobbled classic Paris–Roubaix race, but his performances in other “Monument” races gave him a record that few can match. His record in Paris–Roubaix earned him another nickname, “Monsieur Paris–Roubaix”.

In road bicycle racing, a Grand Tour is one of the three major European professional cycling stage races: Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a España. Collectively they are termed the Grand Tours, and all three races are similar in format being three week races with daily stages. They have a special status in the UCI regulations: more points for the UCI World Tour are distributed in Grand Tours than in other races, and they are the only stage races allowed to last longer than 14 days.

Giuseppe Saronni, also known as Beppe Saronni, is an Italian former racing cyclist. He had remarkable success riding in the Giro d'Italia. In 1980 he won 7 stages and finished 7th overall, in 1981 he won 3 stages and finished 3rd overall. In 1979 and 1983 he would win the Giro d'Italia and all total for his career win 24 stages in this race.

Giovanni Battaglin is an Italian professional road racing cyclist. The highlight of his career was his overall win in the 1981 Giro d'Italia. He also won the 1981 Vuelta a España.

Johan De Muynck Belgian cyclist

Johan De Muynck is a Belgian former professional road racing cyclist who raced from 1971 to 1983. The highlight of his career was his overall win in the 1978 Giro d'Italia. He was an outstanding climber. Other Grand Tour highlights include a very strong performance in the closely contested 1976 Giro d'Italia where he held the Maglia Rosa until the final time trial finishing on the podium in 2nd less than a minute behind the winner. He also rode well in the 1980 and 1981 editions of the Tour de France where he finished 4th and 7th respectively. Going into the 2020 cycling season De Muynck is the last Belgian rider to win a Grand Tour.

Hennie Kuiper road bicycle racer

Hendrikus Andreas "Hennie" Kuiper is a Dutch former professional road racing cyclist. His career includes a gold medal in the Olympic road race at Munich in 1972, becoming world professional road race champion in 1975, as well as winning four of the five “Monument” classics. He rode the Tour de France 12 times, finishing second twice and winning the stage to Alpe d'Huez on two occasions. Kuiper, Ercole Baldini and Paolo Bettini are the only riders to have won both the Olympic road race and the world professional road race.

Tommy Prim is a retired Swedish professional cyclist who rode for the Italian Bianchi team between the years of 1980 and 1986. In 1983 he became the first Scandinavian rider to win a classic race when he was victorious in Paris–Brussels, his other career highlights include winning Tirreno–Adriatico and the Tour de Romandie as well as twice finishing runner up in the Giro d'Italia in 1981 and 1982.

The 1979 Giro d'Italia was the 62nd running of the Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's Grand Tours races. The Giro started in Genoa, on 17 May, with a 8 km (5.0 mi) prologue and concluded in Milan, on 6 June, with a 44 km (27.3 mi) individual time trial. A total of 130 riders from thirteen teams entered the 19-stage race, that was won by Italian Giuseppe Saronni of the Scic-Bottecchia team. The second and third places were taken by Italian Francesco Moser and Swede Bernt Johansson, respectively.

The 1978 Giro d'Italia was the 61st running of the Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's Grand Tours races. The Giro started in Saint-Vincent, on 7 May, with a 2 km (1.2 mi) prologue and concluded in Milan, on 28 May, with a 220 km (136.7 mi) mass-start stage. A total of 130 riders from thirteen teams entered the 20-stage race, that was won by Belgian Johan de Muynck of the Bianchi team. The second and third places were taken by Italians Gianbattista Baronchelli and Francesco Moser, respectively. As of the beginning of the 2020 cycling season this was the last time a Belgian rider won a Grand Tour.

Francesco Gavazzi Italian road bicycle racer

Francesco Gavazzi is an Italian professional road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam Androni Giocattoli–Sidermec.

Marc Demeyer was a professional road racing cyclist from Avelgem, Belgium. He died of a heart attack at the age of 31.

Rik Van Linden is a Belgian former road bicycle racer who won the points classification in the 1975 Tour de France. He also won several stages in all of the three Grand Tours. He also won the classic cycle race Paris–Tours twice.

Mattia Gavazzi Italian road cyclist

Mattia Gavazzi is an Italian former road cyclist, who competed professionally between 2006 and 2016 for teams Team LPR, Preti Mangimi, Diquigiovanni–Androni, Colnago–CSF Inox, Androni Giocattoli–Venezuela, Christina Watches–Dana and two spells with Amore & Vita–Selle SMP. In April 2010, Gavazzi was suspended by the Union Cycliste Internationale following a positive doping control for cocaine. He made his comeback in the 2013 Tour de San Luis. He is a specialist sprinter.

Amore & Vita–Prodir is a continental cycling team founded in 1989. It is registered in Latvia and it participates in UCI Continental Circuits races.

Fausto Masnada is an Italian cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam CCC Team. In May 2019, he was named in the start list for the 2019 Giro d'Italia, and went on to win stage 6 of the race.
