The Algerian Professional League 1, known as National League of First Division or League 1 for short, and formerly known as the National League 1, is the Algerian professional league for association football clubs. It is the country's primary football competition and serves as the top division of the Algerian football league system. Administered by the Football Professionnel League, it is contested by 16 clubs, with the two lowest-placed teams at the end of each season being relegated to the League 2 and replaced by the top two teams in that division. The 1971 Algerian Cup Final was the 8th final of the Algerian Cup. The final took place on June 13, 1971, at Stade 20 Août 1955 in Algiers with kick-off at 15:00. MC Alger beat USM Alger 2-0 to win their first Algerian Cup.

In the 1975–76 season, MC Alger is competing in the National 1 for the 11th season, as well as the Algerian Cup. It is their 8th consecutive season in the top flight of Algerian football. They will be competing in National, the Algerian Cup and the African Cup of Champions. In 1976, MC Alger qualified for the African Cup of Champions Clubs for the first time in its history after winning the 1974–75 Algerian Championnat National. They reached the final after beating Al-Ahly Benghazi of Libya, Al Ahly of Egypt, Luo Union of Kenya and Enugu Rangers of Nigeria, respectively. In the final, they met Guinean club Hafia Conakry, who had won the last edition of the competition. In the first leg in Conakry, MC Alger lost 3–0 and faced the difficult task of having to score three goals in the return leg. However, in the return leg, they managed to score the three goals with a brace from Omar Betrouni and a goal from Zoubir Bachi. They went on to win the penalty shootout 4–1 to win their first African title and also become the first Algerian club to win a continental competition.
The 1972 Algerian Cup Final was the 9th final of the Algerian Cup. The final took place on June 25, 1972, at Stade du 5 Juillet in Algiers. Hamra Annaba beat USM Alger 2–0 to win their first Algerian Cup.
The MC Oran–USM Alger rivalry is a football rivalry between Oran-based MC Oran and USM Alger of Algiers. The two teams have a total of 31 titles from the Ligue Professionnelle 1, Algerian Cup, League Cup and Super Cup at the local level, Regionally the Arab Champions League, the Arab Cup Winners' Cup and the Arab Super Cup, both of which do not have continental titles and the best participation was the final of the CAF Champions League once for each club.
