Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari (born 3 December 1980),also known as Zulfi Bukhari,is a Pakistani politician,businessman and film producer. [1]
He served as a Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan in the capacity of a Minister of State in the federal cabinet until his resignation on 17 May 2021 over the allegations levelled at him in regard to the Rawalpindi Ring Road scandal. [2] The allegations were found to be politically motivated initiated by PTI insider to create distance between Zulfi Bukhari and PM Khan. The investigation team formally cleared him and PTI re-instated him on party positions. [3]
Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari is a British-born Pakistani politician and entrepreneur;born on 3 December 1980. He is popularly known as Zulfi Bukhari. He was a member of Pakistan's Federal Cabinet as Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Overseas Pakistanis &Human Resource Development. [4] He was also appointed Chairman of National Tourism Coordination Board,Pakistan. He belongs to Pakistan’s ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
His family roots lie in Attock,Punjab,and his father Wajid Hussain Bukhari served as environment minister in Pervez Musharraf’s cabinet while his uncle Ejaz Hussain Bukhari is an important PTI politician in Attock. [5]
Zulfi Bukhari is a business tycoon,owns a number of properties in UK and founder of many companies including a UK based luxury real-estate business established in 2011. He is also the founder of Hooks Gym & a London-based design studio.
Among these companies is HPM Developments,which was dissolved under an Insolvency Proceeding in 2020 in London. [6]
He has been an active member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and a close aide to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan since 2011. In 2018,Bukhari was head of Imran Khan's campaign in NA-53 (Islamabad-II). [7] After the 2018 election victory,Imran Khan announced his cabinet. Bukhari was appointed as a Minister of State. He held the following offices:
Zulfi Bukhari holds the party position of 'Advisor to the Chairman on International Media'. He is also responsible for keeping Overseas Pakistanis engaged and represented. [11]
Zulfi Bukhari resigned from his office as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on OPHRD in a tweet on 17 May 2021. [12] [13] He quoted reasons as taking high moral approach as his name had been hinted at in a controversial report unveiled by the government of Pakistan. [14] The allegation came on him for misuse of power owing to his relationship with Dr. Syed Tauqir Bukhari who had been named in the report. He denied any connection as his family is not even on talking terms with Dr Tauqir,he asked for his name to be placed on ECL if need arises. He also declared that he has no role in the alleged ring road scam. [15] [16] Later Federal Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan announced on 18 June 2021 that his resignation had not been accepted by the Prime Minister. [17] The allegations proved to be politically motivated initiated from inside the party. He was eventually cleared off by the investigation teams and given his political positions back,meanwhile,Imran Khan's party was voted out of power through No-confidence motion against Imran Khan. On 3 September 2022,he renounced his British Nationality. [20]
He has interests in film production. He was the executive producer of the 2018 movie Cake,selected as Pakistan’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards. [21]
This was the first Pakistani movie to receive a full red carpet premier in London’s Leicester Square. [22] Cake both challenged the Western perceptions of Pakistani film and stimulated the cultural economy whilst proudly showcasing Pakistani talent to an international audience. Cake was named as Pakistan’s official entry for the Foreign Language Film at the following Academy Awards following critical acclaim and box office success in September 2018. [23]
He was featured in May 2018 by The Muslim 100 Power List,which honours the most powerful and influential Muslims for the very highest level of achievement within the international Muslim community and positively promotes the outstanding contribution made by Muslim men and women on the local,national and international stage. Zulfikar,was acknowledged as one of The Most Influential Trailblazers in Britain Today,others on the list were London's Mayor Sadiq Khan.
He is the first Pakistani to appear on the cover of the Mayfair Times.
The UK-based entertainment and lifestyle magazine Asian Style Magazine has described him as one of South Asia’s five best dressed men in 2020. [24]
He also made the cover of the December 2020 edition of HELLO! Pakistan,the country’s best selling fashion and lifestyle magazine. [25]
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is a political party in Pakistan established in 1996 by Pakistani cricketer and politician Imran Khan,who served as the country's prime minister from 2018 to 2022. The PTI ranks among the three major Pakistani political parties alongside the Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML–N) and the Pakistan People's Party (PPP),and it is the largest party in terms of representation in the National Assembly of Pakistan since the 2018 general election. With over 10 million members in Pakistan and abroad,it claims to be the country's largest political party by primary membership,as well as one of the largest political parties in the world.
Omar Ayub Khan is a Pakistani politician. He was the last Federal Minister for Economic Affairs under the Prime Ministership of Imran Khan from April 2021 until April 2022. He is the grandson of the former President of Pakistan,Field Marshal Ayub Khan and the son of Gohar Ayub Khan,who was also a politician. Previously,he served as a member of the National Assembly from 2002 to 2007 and again from 2014 to 2015. He also served as the Minister of State for Finance in the federal cabinet from 2004 to 2007. He is serving as secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf since 27 May 2023.
Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar is a Pakistani politician who recently served as Pakistan's Federal Minister for Industries &Production. Previously,he has served as Federal Minister of Economic Affairs,Federal Minister of National Food Security and Research and Federal Minister for Planning,Development and Reforms in the PTI Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan. He had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from 2002 to 2008,2013 to 2018 and 2018 till 2023.
Arif-ur-Rehman Alvi is a Pakistani politician who served as the 13th President of Pakistan,in office from 9 September 2018 to 10 March 2024. He was a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from June 2013 to May 2018 and again from August to September 2018. Alvi was a dentist before entering politics in 1979,when he joined Jamaat-e-Islami (Pakistan),but resigned later on from the party and then joined former cricketer Imran Khan's party in 1996 and is amongst the founding members of PTI.
Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar Khan;was the longest serving Parliamentarian in the history of Pakistan. He served in Provincial Assembly of the Punjab and National Assembly of Pakistan from 1951 to 1999 and was the longest serving member. The first direct elections held in Pakistan after independence were for the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab between 10–20 March 1951. He was elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly in 1951. He was again elected in the 1962 and 1964 Provincial Assembly elections in Pakistan. He remained Member National Assembly of Pakistan from 1985-1999. He was also member of Mājlis-e-ShūrāPākistān,The Federal Council from 1982-1984.

Shehryar Khan Afridi is a Pakistani politician who served as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Special Committee on Kashmir,in office from 13 May 2020 to April 2022. He served as the Minister of State for Interior from 31 August 2018 to 18 April 2019. He had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 till January 2023. Previously,he was also a member of the National Assembly from June 2013 to May 2018. He is serving as the Minister of State for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) since 18 April 2019. He was also given an additional charge of the Ministry of Narcotics Control after the death of Ali Mohammad Mahar.

Usman Buzdar is a Pakistani politician and previously served as Chief Minister of Punjab from 20 August 2018 to 30 April 2022. He had been a member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab from August 2018 till January 2023 and served as the parliamentary leader for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the Provincial Assembly of Punjab. Belonging from a Baloch family,he is a minor feudal and the Tumandar of the Baloch tribe Buzdar,since April 2019. He served as Tehsil Nazim of Tehsil Tribal Area from 2001 to 2008.
The Imran Khan ministry was the government of Pakistan which was formed by Imran Khan following his successful election as Prime Minister of Pakistan by the National Assembly. The cabinet had 25 federal ministers,4 ministers of state and 4 advisors,most of whom assumed office on 20 August 2018.
The first 100 days of Imran Khan's prime ministership began with his swearing-in ceremony on 18 August 2018 as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan –shortly after the oath-taking of the 15th National Assembly of Pakistan on 13 August,and the elected parliament's vote of confidence for Khan's premiership on 17 August. The 100th day of his prime ministership was 25 November 2018.
The Pakistan Democratic Movement was a coalition of political parties in Pakistan. It was founded in September 2020 as a opposition movement against Imran Khan,accusing his administration of poor governance,political victimization of opponents,and mismanaging the economy and foreign policy. Imran Khan often rebuked such allegations,during and after his tenure as Prime Minister
The PTI foreign funding case is a case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf where it obtained funds from Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan,overseas Pakistanis and their companies. One of those overseas Pakistanis being the well known Pakistani Businessman Arif Naqvi who according to the Wall Street Journal had also provided funds to Nawaz Sharif and his colleagues. Islamabad High Court in its detailed judgement on 5 April 2023 pronounced not enough documentary evidence existed to implicate Imran Khan in the case.
In April 2022,a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan led to his removal as the prime minister of Pakistan. Based largely on the Westminster system of legislature,the prime minister commands confidence of the majority of the lower house of Parliament,the National Assembly of Pakistan,under clause (2A) of Article 91 of the Constitution. Numerous opposition parties joined forces to file the motion of no confidence against Imran Khan in the National Assembly. It ultimately led to the removal of Khan from office as a majority passed the motion in the Lower House.
A political and constitutional crisis emerged in Pakistan from,3 April 2022 to 10 April 2022 when,National Assembly's Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri dismissed a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan during a session in which it was expected to be taken up for a vote,alleging that a foreign country's involvement in the regime change was contradictory to Article 5 of the Constitution of Pakistan. Moments later,Khan stated in a televised address that he had advised President Arif Alvi to dissolve the National Assembly. Alvi complied with Khan's advice under Article 58 of the constitution. This resulted in the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) taking a suo motu notice of the ongoing situation,creating a constitutional crisis,as effectively,Imran Khan led a constitutional coup. Four days later,the SCP ruled that the dismissal of the no-confidence motion,the prorogation of the National Assembly,the advice from Imran Khan to President Arif Alvi to dissolve the National Assembly,and the subsequent dissolution of the National Assembly were unconstitutional,and overturned these actions in a 5-0 vote. The Supreme Court further held that the National Assembly had not been prorogued and had to be reconvened by the speaker immediately and no later than 10:30 a.m. on 9 April 2022.
Rawalpindi Ring Road also known as Rawalpindi–Islamabad Ring Road,is a 38.3 kilometer orbital highway in Pakistan between the cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Work on the highway started in March 2022,it is currently under construction,upon completion the highway will have six lanes. The ring road will start from Channi Sher Alam bridge near Rawat and end near Thalian interchange close to the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway. The project was originally proposed in 1991,under the government of Nawaz Sharif,however due to political turmoil the project never materialized. During Shahbaz Sharif's visit to China in 2010 as Chief Minister of Punjab,the project was discussed between Pakistani and Chinese authorities to secure funding. In 2017,the project was again briefed to the Asian Development Bank to secure funding for the project.
The 2022 Azadi March II was a protest march led by Imran Khan,former prime minister of Pakistan,from Lahore to Islamabad against the Shehbaz Sharif ministry. It succeeded 2022 Azadi March I,which took place in May.
