Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux French poet and critic

Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux, often known simply as Boileau, was a French poet and critic. He did much to reform the prevailing form of French poetry, in the same way that Blaise Pascal did to reform the prose. He was greatly influenced by Horace.

Thomas Rymer was an English poet, critic, antiquary and historian. His most lasting contribution was to compile and publish 16 volumes of the first edition of the Foedera, a work of 20 volumes containing the texts of agreements made between The Crown of England and foreign powers since 1101. He held the office of English Historiographer Royal from 1692 to 1714. He is credited with coining the phrase 'poetic justice'.

René Rapin (1621–1687) was a French Jesuit and writer.
