The Texas Longhorns are the athletic teams representing the University of Texas at Austin. The teams are sometimes referred to as the Horns and take their name from Longhorn cattle that were an important part of the development of Texas, and are now the official "large animal" of the U.S. state of Texas. Generally, both the men's and women's teams are referred to as the Longhorns, and the mascot is a Texas Longhorn steer named Bevo. The Longhorns have consistently been ranked as the biggest brand in collegiate athletics, in both department size and breadth of appeal.

The Texas Longhorns football program is the intercollegiate team representing the University of Texas at Austin in the sport of American football. The Longhorns compete in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Their home games are played at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Ernest Melvin Koy is a former American football running back for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Texas from 1962 to 1964 and was drafted by the Giants in the 11th round of the 1965 NFL Draft. He was a member of the 1963 Texas Longhorns football team, which won a national championship, although he missed most of the season to injury and illness. His brother Ted Koy also played with the Longhorns and in the NFL. His father, Ernie Koy, played Major League Baseball from 1938 through 1942 for five teams, and also played football at Texas.

The 1920 Texas Longhorns football team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 1920 college football season. In their first year under head coach Berry Whitaker, the Longhorns compiled an undefeated 9–0 record, shut out six of nine opponents, and outscored all opponents by a collective total of 282 to 13.

In their second year under head coach Berry Whitaker, the Longhorns compiled a 6–1–1 record, shut out six of eight opponents, and outscored all opponents by a collective total of 268 to 27. Before the upset by Vanderbilt, the 1921 squad was thought perhaps the best in Longhorns history.

Stewart, the Longhorns compiled an 8–0–1 record, shut out seven of nine opponents, and outscored all opponents by a collective total of 241 to 21.

The 1922 Texas Longhorns football team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 1922 college football season. In their third and final year under head coach Berry Whitaker, the Longhorns compiled a 7–2 record and outscored all opponents by a collective total of 202 to 68.

In their fourth season under head coach Dave Allerdice, the Longhorns compiled an 8–0 record, shut out five of eight opponents, and outscored all opponents by a total of 358 to 21.
