The 1967 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assemblyelection were held in 1967. Out of a total of 1,067 candidates, 276 men and eleven women were elected. The Indian National Congress won 165 seats, the Swatantra Party (SWA) won twenty-nine seats and the Independent Party won sixty-eight seats.

Of the 287 seats contested, 236 were general, eleven were for scheduled tribes and forty were for scheduled castes. [1]

The main parties in the state are the YSR Congress Party, Telugu Desam Party and Jana Sena Party. Other parties that have small presence in the state include the Indian National Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Left parties.

The 2004 Indian general election in Andhra Pradesh and state assembly elections were held simultaneously. In both, the ruling Telugu Desam Party-Bharatiya Janata Party (TDP-BJP) combine was routed. BJP could not win a single seat. The result was a landslide victory for the United Progressive Alliance which won 37 out of 42 seats, which reflects the state elections that occurred before the general elections, where National Democratic Alliance (NDA) member, TDP, was defeated soundly by Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and the Indian National Congress. Alliance with CPM and CPI helped the Congress party. Congress had contested in alliance with the communist parties and the TRS.

The TDP won only 74 seats compared to 202 seats where it emerged victorious in 1985 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, due to anti incumbency wave which prevailed around the state. General Elections were held simultaneously and resulted in the INC(I) winning in 39 out of 42 Lok Sabha constituencies. The Telugu Desam Party on the other hand, won a mearge 2 Lok Sabha constituencies.

The YSRCP swept the elections, winning 22 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state. TDP was reduced to just 3 seats, and national parties like BJP and INC were decimated, not winning any seat.
