The 1987 FIBA Under-19 World Championship (Italian: 1987 Campionato del mondo FIBA Under 19) was the 3rd edition of the FIBA U19 World Championship. It was held in Bormio, Italy from 29 July to 5 August 1987. Yugoslavia won their first and only U19 championship representing Yugoslavia, after beating the defending champions United States 86–76 in the final. [1] Toni Kukoč was named the tournament MVP. [2]

Contents

Several players who played at the tournament have been inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame, including Vlade Divac and Toni Kukoč, and coach Svetislav Pešić, while Gary Payton, Dino Rađa, Kukoč, and Divac are members of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The 1991 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 1991, was the 27th FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship, held by FIBA Europe. The 1985 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship was the 8th edition of the FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship. The city of Ruse, in Bulgaria, hosted the tournament. Yugoslavia won the trophy for the fourth time and became the most winning country in the tournament. It was its second title in a row and third in the last four tournaments.

250 Steps is a 2017 Serbian documentary film which details how the Yugoslavia men's national under-19 basketball team won the 1987 FIBA Under-19 World Championship in Bormio, Italy. Created by Vladimir Pajić, the film was released on 25 September 2017 in Belgrade, Serbia.

The Acropolis International Tournament 1987 was the second edition of the Acropolis International Basketball Tournament. It was held from May 18 to May 20, 1987, at the SEF arena in Piraeus, Athens, Greece. The competition is played under FIBA rules as a round-robin tournament. The participating teams were the hosts, Greece, as well as Yugoslavia, Canada, and the Czechoslovakia.
