Fencing is a group of three related combat sports. The three disciplines in modern fencing are the foil, the épée, and the sabre ; winning points are made through the weapon's contact with an opponent. A fourth discipline, singlestick, appeared in the 1904 Olympics but was dropped after that, and is not a part of modern fencing. Fencing was one of the first sports to be played in the Olympics. Based on the traditional skills of swordsmanship, the modern sport arose at the end of the 19th century, with the Italian school having modified the historical European martial art of classical fencing, and the French school later refining the Italian system. There are three forms of modern fencing, each of which uses a different kind of weapon and has different rules; thus the sport itself is divided into three competitive scenes: foil, épée, and sabre. Most competitive fencers choose to specialize in one weapon only.
Sergei Golubitsky is a Ukrainian fencer. He won three straight world championships in men's foil. He now lives in United States, where he runs the Golubitsky Fencing Center in Tustin, CA. He designed a fencing blade for the Leon Paul company. He wrote his autobiography in 2004, Fencing Is My Life. The book was translated into French and published in France in 2013 under the title L'escrime dans la peau.

Alexandr Anatolyevich Romankov is a former Belarusian fencer from the former Soviet Union, who was born on 7 November 1953 in the town of Korsakov on the island of Sakhalin. One of the most successful Soviet fencers, he is also regarded by some as the greatest foilist of the 20th century. He trained at Dynamo in Minsk and won a gold medal, two silver medals and two bronze medals at the three Olympic Games that he competed in between 1976 and 1988.
Britta Heidemann is a German épée fencer. In 2016, Heidemann became a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Valentina Vezzali is an Italian fencer and politician. As fencer she has won six Olympic gold medals in foil competitions.
Giovanna Trillini is an Italian foil fencer. She is a 4-time Olympic champion and she won an additional silver and two bronze medals in individual Olympic competitions.
Ulrich Robeiri is a French right-handed épée fencer, two-time team European champion, six-time team world champion, 2014 individual world champion, and 2008 team Olympic champion.
Julien Pillet is a French sabre fencer. He is a three-time Olympic medalist as he won the gold in the team event at the 2004 Summer Olympics and also at the 2008 Summer Olympics. He also won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics, again in the sabre team event. He finished 4th in the individual sabre event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Sergey Aleksandrovich Sharikov, also known as Serguei/Sergei Charikov, was a left-handed Russian Olympic champion sabre fencer. In the Olympics he won two gold medals, a silver medal, and a bronze medal.
The World Fencing Championships is an annual competition in fencing organized by the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime or FIE,. The world championships are, after the Olympic Games, the most prominent international competition in the sport of fencing. Contestants may participate in foil, épée, and sabre events.

Le Péchoux competed in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and 2012 London Olympic Games, the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, and the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Rossella Fiamingo is an Italian left-handed épée fencer, two-time individual world champion, and 2016 individual Olympic silver medalist. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Women's team épée, winning a bronze medal.
