The Romani, colloquially known as the Roma, are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group and traditionally nomadic itinerants. They live in Europe and Anatolia, and have diaspora populations located worldwide with significant concentrations in the Americas.
The Slovaks are a West Slavic ethnic group and nation native to Slovakia who share a common ancestry, culture, history and speak Slovak.
Slovakia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest seven times, debuting in 1994. It had attempted to debut in 1993, but did not pass through the qualifying round. In the first three finals that Slovakia participated in, it placed no better than 18th, which it achieved in 1996. Because of its poor results, Slovakia was relegated in 1995 and 1997, and eventually withdrew in 1999. The country returned in 2009, although they withdrew again within four years, having failed to qualify for the final every year since their return.
André Tomes Balazs is an American businessman and hotelier. He is president and chief executive officer of André Balazs Properties, a portfolio of hotels across the United States and residences in New York state, especially in New York City.
Balázs Borbély is a former professional footballer. His former clubs were TJ Družstevník Vrakúň, FC ŠTK 1914 Šamorín and AEL Limassol. At international level, he represented Slovakia.
Nevoľné is a village and municipality in Žiar nad Hronom District in the Banská Bystrica Region of central Slovakia, 6 kilometres from Kremnica town. The village is mentioned first in archive documents in 1487.
Elán is a Slovak pop rock band founded in 1968 by elementary school classmates Jožo Ráž, Vašo Patejdl, Juraj Farkaš, and Zdeno Baláž. They became one of the most popular Czechoslovak bands during the 1980s, releasing ten successful albums between 1981 and 1991. In 1993, the group represented Slovakia in the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest but having finished in fourth place, failed to qualify for the finals in Ireland. Elán performed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, Czech Republic, as part of the championship's entertainment festivities. The band has toured internationally throughout their career. They have produced many well-known hits and won several awards, such as the Slávik Awards, Slávik, and Zlatý slavík, which they won four years in a row.

Anti-Romani sentiment is a form of bigotry which consists of hostility, prejudice, discrimination, racism and xenophobia which is specifically directed at Romani people. Non-Romani itinerant groups in Europe such as the Yenish, Irish and Highland Travellers are frequently given the name "gypsy" and as a result, they are frequently confused with the Romani people. As a result, sentiments which were originally directed at the Romani people are also directed at other traveler groups and they are frequently referred to as "antigypsy" sentiments.

Blažej Baláž is a contemporary Slovak artist. His practise as an artist is usually associated with political art, environmental, activist, mail-art and neo-conceptualism. After 1988 he began working with text as art, neo-conceptual and post-conceptual texts.
The Good Neighborhood and Understanding Award is an award, which was established by Hungarian foreign minister Kinga Göncz and Slovak foreign minister Ján Kubiš on 15 December 2008. It is given for those Slovak and/or Hungarian individuals or organizations, who work the most for the co-operation of the two nations. The aim of the award is to deepen the good relationship of the two countries. It awards also a cash prize of €2,000 and a certification. The award is given in Budapest and Bratislava by turns. This award is important in those days, when there is a crisis between Slovakia and Hungary.
FC Petržalka is a Slovak football club based in Bratislava. The club was founded in 1898 and it promoted twice to the top flight 1. liga in the Czechoslovakia during 1980's and spent another 14 consecutive seasons in the Slovak first league from 1996–97 to 2009–10. The biggest international success of Petržalka was participation in the group stage of the 2005–06 UEFA Champions League and Round of 32 of the 2005–06 UEFA Cup. Several years later, after losing its owner a different company took over the piece of land under the club's old home ground Štadión Petržalka for commercial building-up and the stadium was demolished.
Rudolf Baláž was a Slovak Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Banská Bystrica from 1990 until his death in 2011. Baláž was ordained as a Catholic priest on 23 June 1963. He died on 27 July 2011 at the age of 70.

Peter Baláž, in Esperanto known as Petro, is an Esperantist, publisher and editor; he was selected as the 2012 Esperantist of the Year. Baláž lives in his hometown of Partizánske and speaks Slovak, Czech, German, Polish, Russian and English, as well as the international planned language Esperanto.
Zdena Studenková is a Slovak film and stage actress, and a musical theater singer. She is the holder of the most number of OTO Awards, having won eight times in total.
Cuts is collaborative studio album by the Japanese noise musician Merzbow, Hungarian drummer Balázs Pándi, and Swedish saxophonist Mats Gustafsson. It was recorded during a stop on the trio's East European tour in April 2012. The album was followed up in January 2015 by Live in Tabačka 13/04/12, which was recorded live the day before Cuts in Slovakia. Cuts of Guilt, Cuts Deeper, a studio album recorded with the addition of Thurston Moore, was released in March 2015.
Boris Baláž is a Slovak competitive archer. Baláž made his debut on the Slovak national team at the age of nine, and eventually competed in numerous international archery tournaments, spanning the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics, the 2015 European Games, and the 2016 Summer Olympics. Baláž currently trains under the tutelage of head coach Miroslav Bendík for the Slovak squad, while shooting at a local archery range in his native Liptovský Mikuláš.
