The 2013 AFC U-22 Championship (also known as the 2013 AFC U-22 Asian Cup) was the first edition of the AFC U-22 Championship. The hosting rights for the tournament was awarded to Oman. It was set to take place between 23 June and 7 July 2013 but was postponed to be held between 11 and 26 January 2014 due to the 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup. [2] [3]

Host selection

The AFC Competitions Committee awarded the hosting rights of the 2013 finals to Oman on 18 July 2012. Oman and Thailand were the only nations that came forward wanting to host. [4]

Qualification

The draw for the group stage of qualifying took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 14 February 2012. 41 national teams are taking part in qualifying. All group matches were set to be held from 23 June to 3 July 2012 but were later changed to June 2–10, 2012 due to Nepal's request. [3]

For the draw, teams were seeded based on their performance in the 2010 AFC U-19 Championship. [5]

Only players born on or after 1 January 1991 were eligible to compete in the 2013 AFC U-22 Asian Cup.

Group stage

The draw for the tournament was conducted on 24 August 2013 in Muscat. [6]

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria were applied to determine the rankings. [7]

  1. Greater number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
  2. Goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
  3. Greater number of goals scored in the group matches between the teams concerned;
  4. Goal difference in all the group matches;
  5. Greater number of goals scored in all the group matches;
  6. Kicks from the penalty mark if only two teams are involved and they are both on the field of play;
  7. Fewer score calculated according to the number of yellow and red cards received in the group matches;
  8. Drawing of lots.

The 2013 AFC U-22 Championship qualification was the qualification tournament for the inaugural edition of the AFC U-22 Asian Cup. The qualifiers took place from 23 June to 3 July 2012, but were later changed to 2–10 June for Group D, due to Nepal's request. The matches were later rescheduled to start on 16 June and 3 July for Indonesia.

The 2012 AFF U-19 Youth Championship was held from 2 to 8 September 2012, hosted by Vietnam. All games were played at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam and Thailand were due to represent the AFF but Thailand withdrew and were replaced by Iran. Australia and Uzbekistan are the other competing nations.

The 2014 AFC Challenge Cup qualification phase determined the teams which advanced to the final tournament. The qualification draw was held on 11 December 2012, in AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The group stage of the 2013 AFC Cup was played from 26 February to 1 May 2013. A total of 32 teams competed in the group stage.

The 2014 AFC U-19 Championship qualification was the qualification round for the 2014 AFC U-19 Championship, which took place in Myanmar. The draw for the qualifiers was held on 26 April 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 2014 AFC U-19 Championship was the 38th edition of the biennial international youth football tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for players aged 19 and below. Myanmar were approved as hosts of the competition on 25 April 2013. The 2015 AFC Champions League qualifying play-off was played from 4 to 17 February 2015. A total of 25 teams competed in the qualifying play-off to decide eight of the 32 places in the group stage of the 2015 AFC Champions League.

The 2017 CISM World Football Cup is the 2nd edition of the CISM World Football Cup and take part in Muscat, capital of Oman. Oman the hosts won the tournament for the first time, defeating Qatar 4–1 in a penalty shoot-out after the final finished goalless following extra time. Syria came third and Egypt fourth, while defending champions Iraq did not qualify.

The 2018 AFC Champions League group stage was played from 12 February to 18 April 2018. A total of 32 teams competed in the group stage to decide the 16 places in the knockout stage of the 2018 AFC Champions League.

The 2021 AFC Champions League group stage was played from 14 to 30 April 2021 for the West Region and from 22 June to 11 July 2021 for the East Region. A total of 40 teams competed in the group stage to decide the 16 places in the knockout stage of the 2021 AFC Champions League.
