Latvia, officially the Republic of Latvia, is a country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. It is one of the Baltic states; and is bordered by Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south, Russia to the east, Belarus to the southeast, and shares a maritime border with Sweden to the west. Latvia covers an area of 64,589 km2 (24,938 sq mi), with a population of 1.9 million. The country has a temperate seasonal climate. Its capital and largest city is Riga. The First Straujuma cabinet was the government of Latvia from 22 January to 5 November 2014. It was the first government to be led by Laimdota Straujuma, who was Prime Minister between 2014 and 2016. It took office on 22 January 2014, after the resignation of Valdis Dombrovskis and was abolished on November 5 the same year at the formation of the Second Straujuma cabinet.

Laimdota is a feminine Latvian given name, borne by over 600 individuals in Latvia. Its name day is February 11.

The Second Straujuma cabinet was the government of Latvia from 5 November 2014 to 11 February 2016. It was the second government to be led by Laimdota Straujuma, who was the Prime Minister from 2014 to 2016. It took office after the October 2014 parliamentary election, succeeding the first Straujuma cabinet, which lasted 8 months.

Indirect presidential elections were held in Latvia on 3 June 2015. Raimonds Vējonis of the Green Party was elected President and took office on 8 July. According to the European Green Party, he is the first of their members to become a head of state of a European Union member state.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Dace Melbārde</span> Latvian politician

Dace Melbārde is a Latvian politician. She is a member of New Unity, having defected from the National Alliance in 2022 and was the Latvian minister of culture from 2013 to 2019. In May 2019, representing the political party National Alliance, she was elected as a Member of the European Parliament, where she joined the European Conservatives and Reformists group.
