Eurovision is a pan-European television telecommunications network owned and operated by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). It was founded in 1954 in Geneva, Switzerland, and its first official transmission took place on 6 June 1954. However, a year before the official launch, on 2 June 1953 the coronation of Elizabeth II was one of the first events to be broadcast across Europe.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest</span>

Latvia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 23 times since making its debut at the contest in 2000, where the group Brainstorm finished third with the song "My Star". Latvia won the contest in 2002, with Marie N and the song "I Wanna", defeating Malta by 12 points. Latvia is the second former Soviet country to win the contest. The 2003 contest was held in the Latvian capital Riga. The country achieved its third top 10 result in 2005, when Walters and Kazha finished fifth with "The War Is Not Over".

Latvijas Televīzija is the state-owned public service television broadcaster in Latvia. LTV operates two channels, LTV1 in Latvian and LTV7 in Latvian with selected programming in Russian.

The Museum of the Occupation of Latvia is a museum and historic educational institution located in Riga, Latvia. It was established in 1993 to exhibit artifacts, archive documents, and educate the public about the 51-year period in the 20th century when Latvia was successively occupied by the USSR in 1940–1941, then by Nazi Germany in 1941–1944, and then again by the USSR in 1944–1991. Official programs for visits to Latvia of top level representatives of other countries normally include a visit to the Museum of the Occupation.

Aminata Savadogo, occasionally known as simply Aminata, is a Latvian singer, songwriter, record producer, and model. She represented Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Love Injected". She released her debut studio album, Inner Voice, in April 2015.

Biruta Baumane was a Latvian figurative painter, one of the most notable of her generation of 20th century artists who developed the "harsh style" as a variety of Socialist realism that dominated in the late 1950s and 1960s in Latvian art. She is best known for her figural scenes, still lifes, portraits and women nudes. She was an honorary member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences and Artists’ Union of Latvia.

Eurovision Choir of the Year 2017 was the first Eurovision Choir competition for choral singers, which was organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Interkultur. It was held on 22 July 2017, at the Arena Riga, in the Latvian capital, Riga. The event was produced by Latvian host broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) and the Riga Tourism Development Bureau.

The first representative to participate for the nation at the 2017 edition are the Jazzchor Freiburg choir.

Radiotelevizija Slovenija (RTVSLO) a member organisation of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are responsible for the selection process of their participants, for their debut in 2017. The first representative to participate for the nation at the 2017 edition were the Carmen Manet choir who won the contest with their medley of Ta na Solbici, Adrca, Aj, zelena je vsa gora.

The participation of Latvia in Eurovision Choir began in Riga, Latvia, at the Eurovision Choir of the Year 2017. Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) a member organisation of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are responsible for the selection process of their participants, for their debut in 2017. Spīgo was the first representative to participate for the nation at the 2017 edition after winning the national selection show entitled Latvija Dzied on 29 April 2017.

Latvia participated in the Eurovision Choir of the Year 2017, where they were also the host country of the inaugural Eurovision Choir of the Year. On 29 April 2017, six acts competed in the national selection Latvija Dzied!, organised by the Latvian national broadcaster, Latvijas Televīzija (LTV). Spīgo, under the conductorship of Līga Celma–Kursiete, was chosen as the first representatives at the inaugural contest on 22 July 2017.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Eurovision Young Musicians 2018</span>

The Eurovision Young Musicians 2018 was the nineteenth edition of the Eurovision Young Musicians contest. It was hosted by the United Kingdom, for the first time since the inaugural contest in 1982. This edition was a co-production between the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the Edinburgh International Festival and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) as host broadcaster. Musicians representing eighteen countries with EBU membership participated in the contest, with Albania making their debut alongside seven returning countries, while Austria withdrew from participation for the first time.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Eurovision Choir 2019</span>

Eurovision Choir 2019 was the second Eurovision Choir competition for choral singers, organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Interkultur. It was held on 3 August 2019, at the Partille Arena, in Partille Municipality, Metropolitan Gothenburg, Sweden. The event, presented by Petroc Trelawny and Ella Petersson, was produced by Swedish host broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT) together with an international team of EBU members, the European Choir Games and the City of Gothenburg.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mārtiņš Staķis</span> Latvian entrepreneur and politician

Mārtiņš Staķis is a Latvian politician and businessman, currently serving as Mayor of Riga since 2020. He served as a deputy of the 13th Saeima, the Latvian parliament, until he resigned on 5 June 2020. On 29 August 2020, Staķis was elected to the Riga City Council, and on 2 October, elected Mayor of Riga.

Platform 21, previously known as For Each and Every One and Law and Order, is a right-wing populist political party in Latvia. It is positioned on the right-wing on the political spectrum and it is staunchly socially conservative and Eurosceptic. It was founded in January 2021 and is led by Saeima deputy Aldis Gobzems.
