The World Championship Air Race is a series of air races sanctioned by the World Air Sports Federation (FAI). Originally established in 2003 as the Red Bull Air Race, and created by Red Bull GmbH, the event involves competitors navigating a challenging obstacle course in the fastest time. Pilots fly individually against the clock and have to complete tight turns through a slalom course consisting of pylons, known as "Air Gates".
Pete McLeod is a Canadian professional aerobatic pilot whose first competitive flight was in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in 2009.

Brad Binder is a South African Grand Prix motorcycle racer. He is known for winning the 2016 Moto3 World Championship. In November 2019 he was confirmed as a factory KTM rider in MotoGP class for the 2020 season, replacing Johann Zarco who had abandoned his factory ride earlier in the year.
Antonio Maria Giovinazzi is an Italian racing driver who is racing for Dragon / Penske Autosport in Formula E. He was the 2015 FIA Formula 3 European Championship runner-up and raced with Prema in the 2016 GP2 Series, again finishing runner-up with five wins and eight overall podiums. Giovinazzi was chosen by Scuderia Ferrari to be their third and reserve driver for the 2017 season. He made his competitive debut for Sauber at the 2017 Australian Grand Prix, replacing the injured Pascal Wehrlein. He also replaced Wehrlein at the following Chinese Grand Prix as Wehrlein continued his recovery. Giovinazzi raced in F1 for Alfa Romeo Racing from 2019 to 2021.

Remy Christopher Gardner is an Australian Grand Prix motorcycle racer, best known for winning the 2021 Moto2 World Championship with Red Bull KTM Ajo. He is the son of 1987 premier class world champion, Wayne Gardner. For 2022 he is set to ride for the Tech3 KTM team in MotoGP.
François Le Vot is a fighter pilot in the French air force, presenter and international competitor in aerobatics, most notably in the Red Bull Air Race. He was leader of the aerobatic team of the French Air Force and was 2013 Aerobatics World Champion.
Juan Velarde is a Spanish pilot who currently competes in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship. He has extensive amounts of experience with various types of aircraft and is currently Spain's top pilot.

The event was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, in Indianapolis, the United States.
