The 2017 Laurence Olivier Awards were held on 9 April 2017 at the Royal Albert Hall, London. The ceremony was hosted by comedian Jason Manford. [1] A highlights show was shown on ITV shortly after the live event ended.

Eligibility

Any new production that opened between 17 February 2016 and 21 February 2017 in a theatre represented in membership of the Society of London Theatre was eligible for consideration, provided it had performed at least 30 performances. [2]

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child broke the record for winning the most awards by a single production, overtaking Matilda (2012) and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (2013) both winning seven.

<i>Harry Potter and the Cursed Child</i> 2016 play by Jack Thorne

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play written by Jack Thorne from an original story written by J. K. Rowling, Thorne and John Tiffany. The story is set nineteen years after the events of the 2007 novel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by Rowling. It follows Albus Severus Potter, son of Harry Potter, who is now Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic. When Albus arrives at Hogwarts, he gets sorted into Slytherin, and fails to live up to his father's legacy, making him resentful of his father. Rowling has referred to the play as "the eighth Harry Potter story".

The 2020 Laurence Olivier Awards was held on 25 October 2020 at the London Palladium and hosted by Jason Manford, who presented all of the awards except Special Recognition.

The 62nd Evening Standard Theatre Awards were awarded, on 13 November 2016 at The Old Vic, in recognition of the 2016–17 London Theatre season. Nominations for the Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical were announced in October 2016, followed by the full list of nominations in November 2016. The ceremony was presented by Rob Brydon and co-hosted by Elton John and Evgeny Lebedev.

The 2022 Laurence Olivier Awards were held on 10 April 2022 at the Royal Albert Hall and hosted by Jason Manford. They were the first Oliviers to be held since 2020 due to the complete shutdown of UK theatres in 2020/2021 as a result of lockdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to this, the eligibility period was expanded from 19 February 2020 to 22 February 2022. The green carpet, hosted by Emma B, Angellica Bell, Frank DiLella and Anita Rani, was livestreamed on YouTube and the Olivier ceremony itself was broadcast in full on Magic with hosts Alice Arnold and Ruthie Henshall. Highlights from the show were broadcast on ITV.
