The Sailing World Championships are World championships in sailing for the 10 events contested at the Summer Olympics, organized by World Sailing and held every four years since 2003. In contrast to other years, when each class organise their World championship under supervision of World Sailing, they are the combined World championships for all the disciplines of the next Summer Olympics and serves as the major qualification event for it.
The 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships, was held in Santander, Spain, this was the fourth edition of the ISAF Sailing World Championships. It is the world championships for all disciplines used at the upcoming Olympics. What gives this event greater significance is that it was used as qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.

The 2023 Sailing World Championships will be held in The Hague, the Netherlands, from 8 to 20 August 2023. It will be the sixth edition of the Sailing World Championships. It is the world championships for all disciplines used at the next Olympics, and for four para sailing classes. It will take place on the waters off Scheveningen and offer the chance to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, whose sailing competition will be held in Marseille. Para sailing will be held on Braassemermeer. Approximately 1,400 sailors are expected.
