The 2020 Formula Regional Japanese Championship was a multi-event, Formula 3 open-wheel single seater motor racing championship held in Japan. The drivers were competing in Formula Regional cars that conform to the FIA Formula Regional regulations for the championship. This was the inaugural season of the championship, and was promoted by K2 Planet. [1]

The season started on 1 August at Fuji Speedway and ran until 13 December.

Race calendar

The initial calendar was announced on 27 December 2019. [8] After the COVID-19 pandemic forced the postponement of two races, [9] a revised schedule was announced on 17 June 2020, with 14 races across 6 meetings, starting on 1 August and running until December. [10]

It commenced on May 14 at Suzuka and ended on September 24 at Sportsland SUGO after 16 races held at seven race meetings. The Formula Regional Japanese Championship is a Japanese formula racing championship held under FIA Formula Regional car regulations. Announced by the Japan Automobile Federation on 26 December 2019, it was confirmed that K2 Planet, promoter of Super Taikyu Series, would organise the championship starting in the 2020 season. The top nine finishing drivers in the championship receive FIA Super License points.

Nishikifuji Ryūsei, born 22 July 1996 as Ryūsei Ogasawara is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Towada. He wrestles for the Isegahama stable and made his debut in September 2016 and reached the top division in July 2022. His highest rank has been maegashira 3. With the exception of the sandanme division, Nishikifuji has won championships in each of the four lower divisions of professional sumo, as well as a jūryō championship. Yuga Furutani is a Japanese racing driver who most recently competed in Super GT for Anest Iwata Racing and in Super Formula Lights for TOM'S. He was the champion of the Formula Regional Japanese Championship in 2021.
