General elections were held in Saint Kitts and Nevis on Friday 5 June 2020. [1]

Contents

The ruling coalition, Team Unity consisting of PAM, CCM and PLP, won a landslide victory with nine out of the eleven directly elected deputies, and netting a combined 54.85% of the vote. [2] However, similar to the prior elections in 2015, the individual party that won the most votes (PAM) did not win the most seats.

Electoral system

Eleven of the fifteen seats in the National Assembly are elected, with three other members appointed by the Governor-General at some point after the elections and one seat held by the Attorney-General. [3] The eleven elected seats are elected in single-member constituencies using plurality voting. [4]

The Concerned Citizens' Movement (CCM) is a Nevis-based political party in Saint Kitts and Nevis. The Nevis Reformation Party is a Nevis-based political party in Saint Kitts and Nevis. The party currently holds none of the eleven seats in the National Assembly. Since 2020, the NRP has been led by businesswoman and environmental consultant Janice Daniel-Hodge, the first female to lead a political party in the country and daughter of former Premier of Nevis Simeon Daniel.

The People's Action Movement (PAM) is a political party in Saint Kitts and Nevis. The party currently holds four of the 11 seats in the National Assembly. The Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), also known simply as Labour, is a centre-left political party in Saint Kitts and Nevis. It is currently in government in the country after winning six of the eleven seats in the 2022 general election. It is the oldest active political party in the English-speaking Caribbean.

Konris Maynard, or King Konris born 8 July 1983 on the island of St. Kitts, is most notable for having won the Saint Kitts and Nevis National Calypso Show four times in succession, a record only he holds. The party increased its number of seats in the national assembly to two in the 2020 general elections, with Harris remaining as Prime Minister.

Team Unity, stylised as TEAM UNITY or Team UNITY, was a political alliance of three political parties in Saint Kitts and Nevis. It formed the government after the 2015 election, with the member parties having worked together to win 7 of the 11 available seats in the National Assembly. Following the 2020 election, Team Unity increased its representation to 9 seats, winning a majority again and allowing it to form a government. It was dissolved in 2022.

General elections were held in Saint Lucia on 26 July 2021, having been constitutionally required by 12 October 2021. Voters elected all 17 members of the House of Assembly.
