Local elections are scheduled to be held in Taguig on May 12, 2025, as part of the 2025 Philippine general election. The electorate will elect a mayor, a vice mayor, sixteen members of the Taguig City Council, and two district representatives to the House of Representatives of the Philippines. The officials elected in the election will assume their respective offices on June 30, 2025, for a three-year-long term.

Background

The local race for Taguig has been sensationalized by the media outlets following the recent Supreme Court decision that transfers the jurisdiction of ten Embo barangays from Makati to Taguig. Many political pundits, academicians, and journalists have been tackling the major role and implications that the Embo barangays could bring in the 2025 elections in Taguig.^[1]

In addition, some issues of the repportionment of the districts of Makati and Taguig are still pending to be resolved following the Supreme Court ruling with Taguig possibly gaining additional one congressional seat and eight city council seats to accommodate the new Taguig residents from the Embo barangays that could be up for grabs and filled in 2025.^[2]

In August 2023, the COMELEC has issued a memorandum transferring the jurisdiction of Embo barangays from COMELEC Makati to COMELEC Taguig.^[3] For the first time, the residents of the Embo barangays have voted in Taguig during the 2023 Philippine barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.^[4]

Mayoral election

The incumbent mayor is Lani Cayetano, who has served since 2022 after being elected with 75.77% of the vote. Cayetano is eligible for reelection to a second term. The election has stirred much speculation, most especially in the Embo barangays which gained momentum in national media outlets about the possible clash or dynastic invasion of the Binay family to the Cayetano family by fielding or endorsing a Binay-backed candidate or by running themselves in Taguig.^[5]

Vice mayoral election

The incumbent vice mayor is Arvin Alit, who has served since 2022 after being elected with 68.81% of the vote.

House of Representatives elections

Coinciding with the local elections, two representatives from the districts the city shares with Pateros will be elected to represent the city and the municipality in the House of Representatives in the 20th Congress.

First district

The first district encompasses the entirety of Pateros and the Taguig barangays of Bagumbayan, Bambang, Calzada, Hagonoy, Ibayo-Tipas, Ligid-Tipas, Lower Bicutan, New Lower Bicutan, Napindan, Palingon, San Miguel, Santa Ana, Tuktukan, Ususan and Wawa. The incumbent representative is Ading Cruz who was elected in 2022 with 58.25% of the vote.

Second district

The second district encompasses the Taguig barangays of Central Bicutan, Central Signal Village, Fort Bonifacio, Katuparan, Maharlika Village, North Daang Hari, North Signal Village, Pinagsama, South Daang Hari, South Signal Village, Tanyag, Upper Bicutan and Western Bicutan. The incumbent representative is Pammy Zamora, who was elected in 2022 with 68.75% of the vote.

The legislative districts of Makati are the representations of the highly urbanized city of Makati in the various national legislatures of the Philippines. The city is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress of the Philippines through its first and second districts.

The legislative district of Pateros–Taguig is the combined representation of the independent municipality of Pateros and eastern part of the highly urbanized city of Taguig in the Congress of the Philippines. The city and municipality are currently represented in the lower house of the Congress through their lone congressional district.

Local elections took place in Makati on Monday, May 9, 2022, as a part of the 2022 Philippine general election. Voters will elect candidates for Mayor, Vice Mayor, two representatives, and the sixteen councilors, eight per district, that would be members of the City Council. This was the last general elections in the Embo barangays as part of Makati before being turned over to Taguig in 2023 as a result of the Makati–Taguig boundary dispute ruling.

Embo, which stands for Enlisted Men's Barrio, refers to a collective term for ten barangays in Taguig, Philippines. The barangays were originally established to house military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). The area was formerly disputed between the cities of Makati and Taguig, as well as the municipality of Pateros. As of November 2023, the barangays were transferred from Makati to Taguig.

Ususan is one of the 38 barangays of Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines.
