470 European Championships

Last updated

The 470 European Championships are international sailing regattas in the 470 class, held annually since 1966. [1] Non-European entries are allowed to take part since the 1972 edition, however they will not become European champions. [1]

The 470 (Four-Seventy) is a double-handed monohull planing dinghy with a centreboard, Bermuda rig, and centre sheeting. Equipped with a spinnaker, trapeze and a large sail-area-to-weight ratio, it is designed to plane easily, and good teamwork is necessary to sail it well. The name comes from the boat's length of 470 centimetres.

Peter Burling is a New Zealand sailor. He was the 2021 America's Cup winning skipper and helmsman, and the 2017 America's Cup winning helmsman of Team New Zealand. Burling won an Olympic gold medal in the 49er class at the 2016 games and silver medals in the 2012 and 2020 Olympics.

The Soling European Championship is an International sailing regatta in the Soling organized by the International Soling Association under auspiciën of World Sailing. Over 50 Soling European Championship were held. The popularity grew during the Olympic period of the Soling. After that era the event continued and is still reasonable successful. Eilidh Jane McIntyre is a British former sailor, who won the gold medal alongside Hannah Mills in the 470 event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She won the 2019 470 World Championships, and came second at the 2017 470 World Championships. She finished third at the 2015 470 European Championships, and second at the 2019 and 2021 events, as well as having won multiple Sailing World Cup medals. In 2022, McIntyre was awarded an MBE for services to yachting.
