The 49er and 49er FX is a two-handed skiff-type high-performance sailing dinghy. The two crew work on different roles with the helm making many tactical decisions, as well as steering, and the crew doing most of the sail control. Both of the crew are equipped with their own trapeze and sailing is done while cantilevered over the water to the fullest extent to balance against the sails.

The Singapore Sailing Federation, also known as SingaporeSailing, is the National Sports Association (NSA) responsible for the management and organisation of the sport of sailing in Singapore.

Peter Burling is a New Zealand sailor. He was the 2021 America's Cup winning skipper and helmsman, and the 2017 America's Cup winning helmsman of Team New Zealand. Burling won an Olympic gold medal in the 49er class at the 2016 games and silver medals in the 2012 and 2020 Olympics.

The 49er World Championships are international sailing regattas in the 49er and 49er FX classes organized by the International Sailing Federation. It was first held in 1997. In 2013, the 49er FX class was added to the programme.

Andrew Blair Tuke is a New Zealand sailor who won the 2021 Americas Cup Held in Auckland and also won the 2017 Version held in Bermuda. He also won the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 49er class alongside Peter Burling.

The Men's ILCA 6 World Championship, until 2020 the Men's Laser Radial World Championship, has been held every year since 1989 for the ILCA 6 class, organised by the International Sailing Federation. Laser Radial is an Olympic sailing class. The event was held together with the Women's Laser Radial World Championship between 1989 and 2010.

Ragna Agerup is a Norwegian Olympic sailor and a Junior World champion. She represents the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club in Oslo and New York Yacht Club in New York City. Her college team was Brown University in Providence, RI.

The ILCA European Championships, until 2020 the Laser European Championships, are annual European Championship sailing regattas in the Laser and Laser Radial classes organised by the EurILCA.

The Finn European Championship is an annual European Championship sailing regatta in the Finn (dinghy) classes organised by the International Finn Association.

Nacra 17 European Championship is an annual European Championship sailing regatta in the Nacra 17 class organised by the Nacra 17 Class.

49er & 49er FX North American Championships are annual FX North American Championship sailing regattas in the 49er and the 49er FX classes organised by the International 49er Class Association.

This article details the qualifying phase for sailing at the 2020 Summer Olympics. 350 quota places for the Games are entitled to the sailors coming from their respective NOCs, based on the results at designated regattas supervised by World Sailing. Host nation Japan has been guaranteed one quota place in each of the ten classes.

This article details the qualifying phase for sailing at the 2024 Summer Olympics. 312 quota places for the Games are entitled to the sailors coming from their respective NOCs, based on the results at designated regattas supervised by World Sailing. Host nation France reserves a single boat in each of the ten sailing classes, whereas four quota places are distributed to the NOCs competing in the men's singlehander ILCA 7 and women's singlehander ILCA 6 under the Tripartite Commission.
