The 8th Lagos State House of Assembly is the legislative branch of the Lagos State Government inaugurated on June 8, 2015. The assembly will run its course till June 3, 2019. [1] The assembly is unicameral with 41 representatives elected from each constituencies of the state. [2] [3] The incumbent Speaker of the 8th Legislative Assembly is Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa and the Deputy speaker is Hon. Eshinloku Sanni. [4] The election of representative for the 8th legislative assembly was held on April 28, 2015. [5] [6] [7]

Powers and duties

The legislative function of the Assembly is to make law by passing bills, which must be endorsed by the two-thirds majority of the house. [8] Following the endorsement by the two-thirds majority, the bill is presented to the Governor, who will sign the bill to become law. [9] The assembly also play a significant role in the appointment of the state commissioners, Chief judges and other top official by the governor. [10]

Lagos State House of Assembly

The Lagos State House of Assembly is the state legislature of Lagos State. It is situated along Governor's Avenue in the state capital, Ikeja. The House of Assembly is currently under the All Progressives Congress which is the current party ruling Lagos State. There have been eight different house of assemblies the very first one was inaugurated 2 October 1979 and the present one was inaugurated 7 June 2019. There are forty members of the House of Assembly, two represent one of the twenty various local government areas in Lagos.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly is the political head of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Elected by the Members of the Assembly, the speaker's statutory duty is to preside over the sitting and deliberations of the Assembly. The Speaker also represents the voters of his or her constituency. Since inauguration of the state house of assembly on October 2, 1979, there have been 7 legislative assemblies with 8 representative holding the office of Speaker. The 7th Lagos State House of Assembly is the legislative branch of the Lagos State Government inaugurated on July 4, 2011. The assembly will run its course till July 3, 2015. The assembly is unicameral with 41 representatives elected from each constituencies of the state. The incumbent Speaker of the 7th Legislative Assembly is Rt. The 4th Lagos State House of Assembly is the legislative branch of the Lagos State Government inaugurated on June 2, 1999, and the assembly ran its course till May 30, 2003. The assembly was unicameral with 41 representatives elected from each constituencies of the state. The Speaker of the 6th Legislative Assembly was Rt. Hon Adeleke Mamora and the Deputy speaker was Hon. Adetoun Adediran. The 5th Assembly was inaugurated on June 2, 2003, with the emergence of Adeyemi Ikuforiji as Speaker.

3rd Lagos State House of Assembly

The 3rd Lagos State House of Assembly is the legislative branch of the Lagos State Government inaugurated on January 14, 1992, and the assembly ran its course till June 1, 1999. The assembly was unicameral with 41 representatives elected from each constituencies of the state. The Speaker of the 3rd Legislative Assembly was Rt. Hon Shakirudeen Kinyomi and the Deputy speaker was Hon Rasheed Adebowale. The 4th Assembly was inaugurated on June 2, 2003, with the emergence of Adeleke Mamora as Speaker.

The 1st Lagos State House of Assembly is the legislative branch of the Lagos State Government inaugurated on October 2, 1979, the same year the Lagos State House of Assembly was founded. The assembly ran its course till October 5, 1983. The assembly was unicameral with 41 representatives elected from each constituencies of the state on the platform of the Unity Party of Nigeria. The Speaker of the 1st Legislative Assembly was Rt. Hon Oladosun Oshinowo and the Deputy speaker was Hon Moshood Muse. Babajide Sanwo-Olu Nigerian politician

Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is a Nigerian politician and the current Governor of Lagos State. He became governor under the platform of the All Progressives Congress after contesting and unexpectedly winning the gubernatorial primaries under the All Progressives Congress against incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State in October 2019. He is a graduate of the University of Lagos, as well as the London Business School, Lagos Business School and the John F. Kennedy School of Government. 2019 Lagos State gubernatorial election 2019 election to choose the Governor of Lagos State

The 2019 Lagos gubernatorial election was conducted on March 9 to choose the Governor of Lagos State. The election was held concurrently with various state level elections. Incumbent APC Governor Akinwunmi Ambode lost to the APC flag bearer Babajide Sanwo-Olu at a direct primary election in October 2018 and hence ineligible to run for second term under APC. Babajide Sanwo-Olu won in a landslide against Jimi Agbaje of the PDP who had previously run unsuccessfully for Lagos state governor twice. From 1999, Lagos state has been governed by AD, then ACN, two parties which subsequently formed part of the coalition that birthed the APC in 2014.

Mohammed Tahir Monguno is a Nigerian lawyer and member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Marte-Monguno-Nganzai Federal Constituency of Borno State, Nigeria. He is currently the majority chief Whip of the 9th House of Representatives.

Rahman Owokoniran Nigerian politician

Rahman Owokoniran is a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly. He was appointed commissioner for Housing (2003) and then commissioner for chieftaincy and boundary affairs (2006) under Bola Tinubu's tenure as Lagos State Governor. He led as the chairman of the committee for the creation of the twenty Local government areas and seventeen Local development councils in Lagos State.
