Alex Karaban (born November 11, 2002) is an American college basketball player for the UConn Huskies of the Big East Conference.
Karaban was born to Alexi and Olga Karaban, immigrants from Belarus and Ukraine respectively. [1] [2] He has two siblings, younger sister Ana and younger brother Andrew. [3] He grew up in Northborough and Southborough, Massachusetts, and initially attended Algonquin Regional High School. [4] [5] He transferred to the New Hampton School in New Hampton, New Hampshire after his freshman year. [6] Karaban was named the New Hampshire Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior after averaging 25.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game. [7] After the end of the school year, he transferred a second time to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Karaban was rated a four-star recruit and committed to playing college basketball for UConn over offers from Stanford, Iowa, and Creighton. [8] [9]
Karaban accelerated his graduation at IMG Academy and enrolled at UConn in January 2022. [10] He practiced with the team for the rest of the 2021–2022 season and redshirted the year. [11] Karaban was a unanimous selection to the Big East Conference's All-Freshman team at the end of his redshirt freshman season. [12] He started the 2023 national championship game and scored five points with five rebounds and three blocked shots as the Huskies won 76–59. [13]
Karaban entered his sophomore year on the watchlist for the Karl Malone Award. [14] He scored a career-high 22 points in the Huskies' season-opener against Northern Arizona as UConn won 95–52. [15] Karaban averaged 13.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game as UConn repeated as national champions. [16] He initially declared for the 2024 NBA draft but ultimately decided to return for his redshirt junior season. [17]

Charles John Aleksinas is an American former professional basketball player. He started his college basketball career for the Kentucky Wildcats and won an NCAA championship as a freshman in 1978. Aleksinas transferred to the UConn Huskies after his sophomore season and was a second-team All-Big East Conference selection in 1981. He was picked in the fourth round of the 1982 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls but started his career in Spain during the 1983–84 season where he earned the nickname "Asesino" because of his rough play. Aleksinas signed with the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and played for them during the 1984–85 season. He finished his career in Spain and Italy where he played for five seasons.
The UConn Huskies men's basketball program is the NCAA Division I men's college basketball team of the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut. They currently play in the Big East Conference and are coached by Dan Hurley. With six national championships and 45 conference titles, the program is considered one of the blue bloods of college basketball.

The 2012–13 Connecticut Huskies men's basketball team represented the University of Connecticut in the 2012–2013 NCAA Division I basketball season. The Huskies split their home games between the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, and the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion on the UConn campus in Storrs, Connecticut. The Huskies are a member of the Big East Conference. This season marked the first for new head coach Kevin Ollie, a former Husky, who replaced Jim Calhoun, who retired in September 2012 after 26 seasons as head coach.
Alex Oriakhi Jr. is a former American professional basketball player who last played for Depiro Rabat Imtarfa of the Maltese Division One Basketball league. He was the starting center for the Connecticut Huskies' 2010–11 NCAA championship team. He transferred to the University of Missouri for his senior year. He was selected with the 57th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns.
The 2013–14 UConn Huskies women's basketball team represented the University of Connecticut (UConn) in the 2013–14 NCAA Division I basketball season. The Huskies were led by 29th-year head coach Geno Auriemma and played their home games at three different venues: the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, on campus at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut and a game at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This was UConn's first season as a member of the American Athletic Conference, known as The American. The Huskies finished the season with a perfect 40–0, 18–0 in the American Conference in winning both the regular season and the tournament titles. They received an automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament and won their ninth National Championship by defeating Notre Dame. The previous day, Connecticut also won the men's tournament. It was just the second time in NCAA history the same school had won both the men's and women's tournaments; UConn first accomplished that feat in 2004.

Nika Mühl is a Croatian professional basketball player for the Seattle Storm of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She played college basketball as a point guard for the UConn Huskies. Twice named Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Year while in college, Mühl is UConn's all-time leader in career assists, with 686, and also holds the program records for most assists in a single season and in a single game. She was selected 14th overall by Seattle in the 2024 WNBA draft.
