The Allianz Cup was a tournament for professional female tennis players. The event, played on outdoor clay courts, was classified as a $25,000 ITF Women's Circuit tournament in its final year and was held in Sofia, Bulgaria. It was a $100,000 event for four years in a row until it was downgraded in 2012. The first edition was held in 1991.

West Germany's Steffi Graf defeated Argentina's Gabriela Sabatini in the final, 6–3, 6–3 to win the gold medal in Women's Singles tennis at the 1988 Summer Olympics. With the win, Graf completed the Golden Slam, having also won all four majors earlier in 1988. The final was a rematch of the U.S. Open final earlier that year, where Graf also prevailed to complete the Grand Slam. The United States' Zina Garrison and Bulgaria's Manuela Maleeva-Fragnière won the bronze medals. It was the first medal in the event for West Germany, Argentina, and Bulgaria, while the United States had previously earned medals in both of its prior appearances in 1900 and 1924.

The 2020 ATP Cup was the first edition of the ATP Cup, an international outdoor hard court men's team tennis tournament held by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Serving as the opener for the 2020 ATP Tour, it was the first ATP team tournament since the last edition of the World Team Cup in 2012. It was held on 3–12 January 2020 at three venues in the Australian cities of Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney.
