Anne Lafortune is a Seychellois teacher turned diplomat. In 2023 she became her country's ambassador to China, Japan and South Korea.
Lafortune was born in Sabah in Malaysia as her family were living and working there. [1]
She went into teaching and she became the Seychelles Polytechnic's director before she was employed by the Ministry of Education as their Director General for Technical and Further Education. [1] In 2007 she moved out of education to be the Principal Secretary for Health and Social Development.
Lafortune became the Principal Secretary for Tourism in 2013 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism. In 2015 she received a World Travel Award on behalf of the Seychelles when it was recognised as the Indian Ocean's leading destination. [2] She arranged for the training of tourism staff in Ireland. [3] Her own education took place at Western Australia's Edith Cowan University and Bristol University in England. [1]
She became an ambassador for the Seychelles in 2021. [1] This is an honour that gives her the title of "Ambassador" for her life. There have been less than thirty ambassadors ever when she was selected. [4] In 2023 she was accredited as the ambassador to China in the Great Hall of the People alongside 69 other ambassadors. [5] She was also the ambassador to Japan [6] and South Korea. [7] She and other ambassadors were briefed in China on how the government gathers the opinions of their citizens and she was impressed. [8]
Lafortune sits on a number of boards in the Seychelles. These include the board for the Civil Aviation Authority, the Seychelles Investment Board, the country's Broadcasting Corporation and the Seychelles Licensing Authority. [1]
Lafortune has two children and a home on Mahe which is the main island of the Seychelles. [1]
Seychelles, officially the Republic of Seychelles, is an island country and archipelagic state consisting of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean. Its capital and largest city, Victoria, is 1,500 kilometres east of mainland Africa. France-Albert René was a Seychellois lawyer, politician and statesman who served as the second President of Seychelles from 1977 to 2004. He also served as the country's second Prime Minister from its independence in 1976 to 1977.
Jérémie Émile Patrick Bonnelame is a Seychellois political figure and diplomat. He was Secretary-General of the Indian Ocean Commission from 1993 to 1997, Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1997 to 2005, and was the Permanent Representative of the Seychelles to the United Nations from 2005 to 2007. He was the Chairman of the Constitutional Appointment Authority from July 2007 to July 2014(CAA).
Jacques Hodoul was a Seychellois judge and former politician. After serving as Minister of Education and Culture, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1979 to 1982, Minister of National Development from 1982 to 1989, and Minister of Tourism and Transport from 1989 to 1991. He was the leader of the Seychelles Movement for Democracy, which he founded in 1991. Hodoul was appointed to the post of Justice of Appeal in March 2005, the highest court in Seychelles. Hodoul resigned from this position in 2011 after finishing his minimum five-year term. Hodoul died on 3 May 2021.

Danielle Marie-Madeleine Jorre de St Jorre was a Seychelles politician. She was the foreign minister of Seychelles under President France-Albert René from 1989 until her death in 1997. Danielle de St Jorre was a teacher by profession and also a linguist. She was known as a pioneer in the promotion of Creole language. Her passion and determination to ensure the development of Seychellois Creole was known in the Indian Ocean island nation.
