Smile Empty Soul is an American rock band, originally from Santa Clarita, California, United States. It was started in 1998 by Sean Danielsen, Ryan Martin (bass), and Derek Gledhill (drums). Following the departure of Gledhill and Martin from the band in 2005 and 2017, respectively, Danielsen remains the only founding member still active as well as the band's primary songwriter, frontman, and leader.

Smile is the fourteenth full-length album by Japanese band Boris. It was released through Diwphalanx Records in early 2008, featuring guest musicians Michio Kurihara of Ghost and Stephen O'Malley of Sunn O))), both of whom have collaborated with Boris in the past. Shortly after this initial release, the album was released by American label Southern Lord with a slightly different track listing, different artwork, and an almost entirely different sound. The American post-grunge band Smile Empty Soul was previously known as Hecklers Veto. During this time they released an eP titled Smile Empty Soul, copies of which were passed out at local rock shows by the band. One fan recalls receiving one at a local Papa Roach show. Quantities of the EP are very rare and only three copies are known to exist on CD, and one cassette version. The cassette version has completely different tracks from the CD version and was only produced by J. Danielsen, both sides of cassette are the same. The track length for the cassette version is unknown.

Mnemos is a 2012 remix EP recorded by Christian experimental rock band Falling Up. It was released on April 10, 2012, as part of a "pay-as-you-can" package on Groupees, a website which allows users to purchase packages containing various digital downloads. All of the proceeds from the album went to benefit the homeless, with over 3,200 meals being served from the project. Falling Up offered two reward packages, with the first consisting of three bonus tracks if there were over 1,000 downloads. Within the first day, the 1,000 mark was broken. After the promotion, the album became available for download on the band's BandCamp page.

Chemicals is the sixth full-length album by American post-grunge band Smile Empty Soul. The album was released on October 1, 2013, and "finally [got] a proper European release" said Sean Danielsen. The album is also supposed to have a "half live feel and half studio feel" said Danielsen in an interview. The album cover is designed and painted by Sean, Ryan & Jake. On August 10, 2013 Smile Empty Soul announced their first single, "False Alarm". On October 21, 2013 Smile Empty Soul released a music video for "False Alarm", the video was filmed at the Machine Shop in Flint Michigan during "The Merican Chemicals Tour" & official CD release party for Chemicals.

The singles from the album include "Sides" and "Stars", "Stars" is scheduled to have a music video released the same day of the single release. The music video for "Stars" premiered live on Alternative Press's Facebook Live on 4/13/18 as scheduled.

Sheep is the fourth EP by American post-grunge band Smile Empty Soul. It was announced on Facebook along with the album art teaser on August 24, 2019. During the recording process a couple of studio pictures were teased on Facebook of studio recordings. The band then announced on October 5, 2019, on Facebook the completion of Sheep and the final track listing.
