Arusha Technical College (ATC) is a Tanzanian college, with its main campus located inside Ngarenaro ward, in the city of Arusha, Arusha Region. [1] ATC is one of the largest and well established public coeducational post-secondary tertiary education institutions in Arusha Region. The college has three campuses: Main Campus in Arusha City, the second campus in located in Oljoro ward in Arumeru District, Arusha Region. The third campus is located in the small town Kikuletwa in Hai District, Kilimanjaro.

History

ATC was established in 1978 by the Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania and Germany (then the Federal Republic of Germany), as the Technical College Arusha (TCA).

In March 2007, the name changed to the Arusha Technical College (ATC) through the Arusha Technical College Establishment Order No. 78 as enabled by the NACTE Act No. 9 of 1997.

Accreditation

The National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) has granted ATC accreditation to teach technicians and engineers (NTAs 4-8). The Vocational Education Training Authority (VETA) has also approved the College to educate craftsmen (NVAs 1-3). [2]

Campuses

ATC, Oljoro Campus

In 2011, ATC developed the Oljoro irrigation training farm in Oljoro ward in Arumeru District in south Arusha Region. The campus farm is designed to provide Civil and Irrigation Engineering students with practical skills. The campus is 150 acres (60 ha) and is mostly a demonstration irrigation farm. The Oljoro campus farm is roughly 15 kilometers south of Arusha city. [3]

ATC, Kikuletwa Campus

Officially known as the Kikuletwa Renewable Energy Training and Research Center (KRETRC) was created in 2012 to train students on building and operating renewable energy projects. The campus has rehabilitated the Kikuletwa Hydro Power Plant and is the main feature on the campus. the campus is located in the town of Kikuletwa in Hai district Kilimanjaro region. [4]

Kilimanjaro Region Region of Tanzania

Kilimanjaro Region is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions. The regional capital and largest city is the municipality of Moshi. With a HDI of 0.613, Kilimajaro is one among the most developed regions of Tanzania. According to the 2012 national census, the region had a population of 1,640,087, which was lower than the pre-census projection of 1,702,207. For 2002-2012, the region's 1.8 percent average annual population growth rate was the 24th highest in the country. Arusha people Tanzanian ethnic group

The Arusha people are a Bantu ethnic and indigenous group based in the western slopes of mount Meru in Arusha District of Arusha Region in Tanzania. The Maasai regard the Arusha people as related as they were once a part of the immigrant Maasai society that arrived in Arusha in the 18th century from Kenya. The Arusha people are not to be confused by Arusha residents who are Tanzanian people of different ethnic backgrounds that are born and reside within the borders of the Arusha Region.

Mateves Ward in Arusha Rural District, Arusha Region

Mateves is a Tanzanian administrative ward located in Arusha Rural District of the Arusha Region. It is one of 21 administrative wards in the district. Mateves means places where the fever tree grows in the Maasai language. Levolosi Ward of Arusha City Council in Arusha Region of Tanzania

Levolosi is an administrative ward in the Arusha District of the Arusha Region of Tanzania. Levolosi means "middle" in the Maasai language word olevolos. Levolosi is one of 19 urban administrative wards in the municipality. The ward is bordered by Ngarenaro ward to the west, Kaloleni ward to the northeast, Kati ward to the southeast and, Unga L.T.D ward to the south. The ward covers an area of 1.148 square kilometers. The ward is home to some one of the largest hospitals, markets and transportation hubs in the city. Levolosi is home to the Levolosi cemetery, one of the oldest in the city located next to Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium. According to the 2012 census, the ward has a total population of 8,838.

Hai Mjini is an administrative ward in Hai District of Kilimanjaro Region in Tanzania. The ward covers an area of 54 km2 (21 sq mi), and has an average elevation of 1,388 m (4,554 ft). According to the 2012 census, the ward has a total population of 34,098.

University of Arusha

University of Arusha (UoA) is a chartered Tanzanian, private Christian university based in Usa River, Arumeru District, Arusha Region. It is owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system.
