Dr. Asish Banerjee is an Indian politician representing All India Trinamool Congress,who was the minister in charge of the Department of Agriculture in the Government of West Bengal from 2017 to 2021. [1] He is also M.L.A. of West Bengal Legislative Assembly,elected from Rampurhat (Vidhan Sabha constituency) five times (terms 2001,2006,2011,2016 &2021). [2]
Asish Banerjee was born in Rampurhat Birbhum district in West Bengal. He completed his bachelor's and master's degrees from Burdwan University. He also completed his PhD at the same university. During this period he was elected General Secretary of University Students' Council.
After completing his education at Burdwan University,Banerjee was an associate professor of Bengali at Rampurhat College under Burdwan University.
He was elected as M.L.A. from Rampurhat (Vidhan Sabha constituency) in 2001 and subsequently re-elected from same constituency in 2006,2011 and 2016. Banerjee was first time sworn in as a Minister of State under chief minister Mamata Banerjee in 2014 and allotted the independent charge of Department of Ayurveda,Yoga and Naturopathy,Unani,Siddha and Homoeopathy. The next year he was nominated for minister in charge for Department of Biotechnology,Department of Statistics and Programme implementation,Planning. [3]
In 2017,he took charge as the Agriculture Minister of West Bengal Government in Mamata Banerjee ministry (2016–2021) from his predecessor Purnendo Bose. [3]
Suvendu Adhikari is an Indian politician from Bharatiya Janata Party who is the current Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly since 2021 and a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Nandigram Assembly constituency since 2021 and from Contai South from 2006 to 2009. He previously served as the Minister of Transport from 2016 to 2020,Irrigation and Water resource from 2018 to 2020 in the Government of West Bengal. He was also a member of Lok Sabha from Tamluk from 2009 to 2016 and the chairperson of Jute Corporation of India from 2020 to 2021. He was a former member of the Trinamool Congress from 1998 to 2020 and Indian National Congress from 1995 to 1998. He is the son of Sisir Adhikari,Member of Parliament and former Union Minister of State for Rural Development in the Manmohan Singh government.
Ratna De is an Indian politician who has been serving as Cabinet Minister of State for Environment Science,Technology and Bio-Technology in the Government of West Bengal. She was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha and 16th Lok Sabha from Hooghly,which includes the Singur area. She lost the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 to Locket Chatterjee,who was elected as a BJP candidate from the Hooghly Lok Sabha constituency. In the 2021 election,she was elected as the MLA of West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Pandua Vidhan Sabha Constituency.
