BRP Malamawi (FPB-2403) is the third of four Boracay class Patrol Boats built by OCEA of France for the Philippine Coast Guard based on the Ocea FPB 72 design.
BRP Malamawi was launched in July 2018 at the OCEA site in Les Sables d’Olonne, France [1] and was commissioned into service in Manila, Philippines in January 2019 along with her sister ship, BRP Kalanggaman (2404). [2]
A patrol boat is a relatively small naval vessel generally designed for coastal defence, border protection, immigration law-enforcement, search and rescue duties. There have been many designs for patrol boats. They may be operated by a nation's navy, coast guard, police force or customs and may be intended for marine or estuarine or river environments. They are commonly found engaged in various border protection roles, including anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, fisheries patrols, and immigration law enforcement.
