Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) is a research institute in Mymensingh, specialized in using nuclear and radiation technology in agricultural research. [1]

History

BINA was established in 1961 by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (currently Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission), and is now a national institute. BINA has developed a number of varieties of different crops using the radiation technology. For its contribution in the field of agricultural research, BINA has won national awards, most notably the President's Gold Medal. Apart from its headquarters in Mymensingh, BINA has fourteen sub-stations at Comilla, Rangpur, Ishwardi, Magura, and Khulna. [2]

Naiyyum Choudhury was a Bangladeshi biotechnologist and a nuclear scientist. He pioneered the development and adoption of the National Biotechnology policy of Bangladesh. He served as the Chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, and also served in many important positions in Bangladesh. He was serving as the founding Chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) at the time of his death. He was the Chairman of the Department of Microbiology, Dhaka University, Professor and Coordinator of Biotechnology at BRAC University, and served as faculty member in Jahangir Nagar University and BUET. He was also the IAEA Regional Cooperation Agreement (RCA) Chair person. He was also a fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS), and was serving as the Vice President of BAS at the time of his death. He was also the contact person for Inter Academic Panel (IAP) of Bangladesh.

Board of Radiation & Isotope Technology (BRIT), the unit of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), is focused on bringing the benefits of the use of radio isotope applications and radiation technology across industry, healthcare, research and agricultural sectors of the society.

In December 2016, the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC), in cooperation with a consortium headed by the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute, inaugurated the 5 MW Jordan Research and Training Reactor. The facility is the first nuclear reactor in the country. It will provide radioactive isotopes for medical usage in Jordan, and will provide training for students at the University to produce a skilled workforce for the country's planned commercial nuclear reactors.

Ratan Kumar Sinha, is an Indian nuclear scientist and mechanical engineer. He had served as the Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), Government of India from April 2012 to October 2015. Prior to that, Ratan Kumar Sinha had served as Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai from May 2010 to June 2012. During the four decades of his career, Ratan Kumar Sinha held several important positions related to design & development of nuclear reactors for the Indian nuclear programme. He has been actively involved in the development of the advanced heavy water reactor (AHWR) and Compact High Temperature Reactor (CHTR), two of the highly acknowledged technological innovations which are suitable for large scale deployment of nuclear power, particularly in India.

Chaitanyamoy Ganguly is an Indian nuclear scientist and a former head of the Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), credited with many innovations in the field of nuclear material science. He was honored by the government of India in 2002, with the fourth-highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri.

Khushnood Ahmed Siddiqui, also known as Dr. K. A. Siddiqui, was a renowned Pakistani botanist and Sufi poet from Sindh, known widely for his work in genetic engineering (mainly in developing various cereal crops and wheat varieties, as well as for his spiritual poetry and literary works, influenced by his mentor, famous Sindhi poet Umar Bin Muhammad Daudpota and the renowned Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

Atomic Energy Research Establishment is a government nuclear research station in Bangladesh and is located in Savar Upazila, Bangladesh. It was built to develop skilled manpower trained in the uses of nuclear resources. It is under the control of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and it is the largest institute under the commission.

Mubarak Ahmad Khan is a Bangladeshi scientist who has been doing research into jute's commercial uses and possibilities. According to the science-based research database, Scopus, he is considered to be the leading scientist in the study of jute worldwide. He is currently serving as the Scientific Advisor of Bangladesh Jute Mills corporation (BJMC). Among his inventions are the Sonali Bag, Jutin, and helmets and tiles made from jute.
