Commonwealth Games appearances (overview)

Bangladesh has competed at eight Commonwealth Games, with the first coming in 1978. They did not compete again until 1990, but have competed in every Games since. Bangladesh has won eight Commonwealth Games medals, all coming in shooting events. [1]

Bangladesh's most successful medallist at the Commonwealth Games was Asif Hossain Khan who earned himself one gold, one silver and one bronze. He also shares the most Commonwealth Games medals for Bangladesh with Abdullah Hel Baki with three medals each.

The Commonwealth Games is a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations, which consists mostly, but not exclusively, of territories of the former British Empire. Great Britain, represented by the British Olympic Association (BOA), competed at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium. 234 competitors, 218 men and 16 women, took part in 84 events in 21 sports. Mohammad Asif Hossain Khan is a Bangladeshi shooter. He won the gold medal at 2002 Commonwealth Games in 10 m Air Rifle and repeated his success in the 2004 SAF games by winning gold in the same event. On October 2, 2006, he was brutally beaten by the local police of Bangladesh, injuring both of his arms. His son, Mashrur, currently resides in Costa Rica with wife Natalie.

Annemarie Forder is an Australian who competes in the individual Olympic Air Pistol event, where she won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, she also competed at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games in the same event, where she placed 23rd. Forder also represented Australia at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games, where she won 2 Gold Medals and broke the Commonwealth Record in the individual Air Pistol event, she also competed at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games where she won 2 bronze medals.

Bangladesh competed in their fourth Commonwealth Games in 2002 sending male athletes in athletics and swimming and a mixed team in shooting. It won a gold medal in shooting, its first medal since Auckland 1990, when it won a gold and a bronze in shooting.

Bangladesh participated at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The Bangladesh Olympic Association announced that its delegation for the games would consist to 30 athletes in 10 sports. The total of 30 athletes consisted of eight athletes in shooting, four in weightlifting, three each in cycling, table tennis and boxing; two each in athletics, badminton, swimming and wrestling; and one in gymnastics.

Canada competed in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 to August 3, 2014. It was the nation's 20th appearance at the Commonwealth Games, having competed at every Games since their inception in 1930. Canada competed in 16 out of 17 sports with the only exception being netball. Canada's team consisted of 265 athletes and 100 support staff, the largest team for a games not hosted by the country. On September 12, 2012 former Commonwealth Games medalist Chantal Petitclerc was named as the Chef de mission of the team, marking the first time a former para athlete was named to the post.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mick Gault</span> English sport shooter (born 1954)

Michael Gault OBE, is an English sport shooter. He has competed at the Commonwealth Games on six occasions winning eighteen medals, a record for athletes in any sport that he jointly holds with Australian shooter Phillip Adams, but has never been selected for the British Olympic team. Gault also won two ISSF World Cup bronze medals whilst representing Great Britain.

Abdullah Hel Baki is a Bangladeshi sports shooter. He competed in the men's 10 metre air rifle event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Prior to the Olympic games he also won a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He also won a bronze medal during the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
