The Beijing underground cross-city railway is a short railway connection in Beijing. The speed limit is 120 km/h. [1] It connects the important transportation hubs Beijing railway station and Beijing West railway station via a tunnel. It also connects lines from southern and western areas with lines from northeast China. [3] The railway has a length span of 9.156 km (5.689 mi), and has been officially operational since March 20, 2015. [4]
It is used by conventional railway lines such as K7752 from Shijiazhuang to Chengde via Beijing West railway station and Beijing railway station. It is also used by the commuter rail service in Beijing, the Sub-Central line of the Beijing Suburban Railway, which started in December 2017. [5] [6]
In the early 1980s a plan was proposed to connect Beijing railway station to Beijing West railway station via a conventional railway. This was an important part of the overall planning of Beijing West railway station's renovation, originally announced as part of the "Eighth Five-Year Plan". However, due to technical difficulties and other factors, this project did not begin.
The Beijing Subway is the rapid transit system of Beijing Municipality that consists of 27 lines including 22 rapid transit lines, two airport rail links, one maglev line and 2 light rail lines, and 490 stations. The rail network extends 836 km (519 mi) across 12 urban and suburban districts of Beijing and into one district of Langfang in neighboring Hebei province. With 3.8484 billion trips delivered in 2018, an average of 10.544 million trips per day, the Beijing Subway is the world's busiest metro system. Single-day ridership set a record of 13.7538 million on July 12, 2019. Being 836 kilometres (519 mi) in system length, the Beijing Subway is the longest metro system by route length, surpassing the Shanghai Metro in December 2023.
Line 1 of the Beijing Subway is the oldest and one of the busiest lines of Beijing's mass transit rail network. Line 1 runs underneath Chang'an Avenue, the city's grand east–west thoroughfare, right through the heart of Beijing with stops on either side of Tiananmen Square. Line 1's color is dark red. Through operation with the Batong line started on August 29, 2021.
Urban rail transit in China encompasses a broad range of urban and suburban electric passenger rail mass transit systems including subway, light rail, tram and maglev. Some classifications also include non-rail bus rapid transport. As of 31 December 2023, China has the world's longest urban rail transit system with more than 10,000 km (6,200 mi) of urban rail nationwide in 49 systems in 47 cities, accounting for 9 of the 10 longest metro systems, with the exceptions of the Moscow Metro or metro systems in Seoul combined if metro systems in the same cities are merged in the rank.
The Capital Airport Express of the Beijing Subway, also known by the initials ABC, Airport Beijing City, is an airport rail link from Beixinqiao station to the Beijing Capital International Airport. The line became operational on July 19, 2008. On subway maps, the Capital Airport Express' color is purplish gray .
Line 9 of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line in western Beijing. The line runs 16.5 km (10.3 mi) from the National Library in Haidian District to Guogongzhuang in Fengtai District with 13 stations. All stations are fully underground. Line 9's color is chartreuse.
Line 7 of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line in Beijing. It runs parallel and to the south of Line 1 and Batong line, from the Beijing West railway station in Fengtai District to Universal Resort in Tongzhou District. Like Line 6, Line 7 provides additional relief to the overcapacity Line 1 adding another east–west trunk line to the Beijing Subway network. The line uses 8-car Type B trains. Line 7's color is light orange.
Line 8 of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line in Beijing. It sits on the central axis of Beijing. Line 8's color is green. It is 49.5 km (30.8 mi) in length with 35 stations. The most recent extension is the central section from National Art Museum to Zhushikou, opened on 31 December 2021.
Line 6 of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line in Beijing. The line runs from Jin'anqiao in Shijingshan District to Lucheng in Tongzhou District. It serves important residential areas such as Changying, Chaoqing, and Dingfuzhuang, in addition to important commercial and business areas such as Financial Street, Beijing CBD and the sub-administrative center in Tongzhou District. Like Line 7, Line 6 provides relief to the parallel Line 1, which is the second most used subway line in Beijing, after Line 10. Line 6 is the second longest subway line in Beijing. A complete journey from end to end takes about an hour and 25 minutes on a local train and express trains reducing end to end travel time by 7 minutes.
The Fangshan Line of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line in western Beijing that runs from Yancundong in Fangshan District north and east to Dongguantounan in Fengtai District. The line is 31.8 km (19.8 mi). It is mainly elevated, including 10 elevated stations and 6 underground stations. It allows residents of Beijing's western suburbs to connect to the rest of the Beijing Subway network. Fangshan line's color is orange.
The Changping Line of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line in northern Beijing. It is 43.2 km (26.8 mi) in length with 20 stations. Changping line's color is pink.
Line 16 of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line in Beijing. It is 48.9 km (30.4 mi) in length with 30 stations. The line is fully underground.
Line 3 of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line under construction in Beijing. It is expected to open by the end of September 2024. It will be colored rose red in system maps.
Line 17 of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line that is partially in operation in Beijing. The line is fully underground and has a total length of 49.7 km (30.9 mi). It is scheduled to open in parts between 2021 and 2024. The line is operated by Beijing MTR Corporation Limited. Line 17's color is turquoise.
Line 19 of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line in Beijing. It is 20.9 km (13.0 mi) in length and has 10 stations. It is fully underground. Line 19's color is lavender.
Line 11 of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line of the Beijing Subway. The line opened between Jin'anqiao and Xinshougang on December 31, 2021, and between Jin'anqiao and Moshikou on December 30, 2023. Line 11's color is grapefruit.
Beijing Fengtai railway station is a railway station located in the Fengtai District of Beijing. It was renamed from Fengtai railway station to Beijing Fengtai railway station in 2021. The new railway station opened on 20 June 2022.
Daxing Airport Express of the Beijing Subway is an airport rail link from Caoqiao to the Beijing Daxing International Airport. It is colored blue on subway maps. The line opened on September 26, 2019.
Line 22 (Pinggu line) of the Beijing Subway is a rapid transit line under construction in Beijing and Hebei Province.
Sub-Center line of Beijing Suburban Railway (BCR) is a commuter rail line in Beijing. It runs from Liangxiang railway station in Fangshan District to Qiaozhuang East railway station in Tongzhou District. It provides faster service to reach Beijing's sub-administrative center in Tongzhou from central Beijing. The line is currently 63.7 km (39.6 mi) in length with 6 stations.
Liangxiang railway station is a railway station in Liangxiang, Fangshan District, Beijing, China. It serves as an intermediate freight station of the Beijing–Guangzhou railway, while passenger services are provided by the Sub-Central line of Beijing Suburban Railway since 30 June 2020.
