Big Bad Boo is a Canadian production company that specializes in animated series for television [1] as well as games, apps, websites and curriculum development. [2] Popular TV series are 16 Hudson, based on the miniseries Lili & Lola and musical series ABC with Kenny G, which is also spinoff.

Other titles include The Bravest Knight, a Hulu Original, and Mixed Nutz [3] which aired on PBS in the US and in 30 other countries worldwide. Big Bad Boo's second TV series 1001 Nights is based on the One Thousand and One Nights book. In 2012, Big Bad Boo won the number one spot at Mipcom Junior in the top 30 most viewed children's shows. [4] The same year, Big Bad Boo won the BC Export Award in the Digital Media & Entertainment category. The BC Export Awards honor the top exporters in British Columbia. [5]

History

It was founded as Norooz Productions in New York and Los Angeles, and adopted its current name two years later in 2007 when it opened a Vancouver office. Big Bad Boo was co-founded by entrepreneurs Shabnam Rezaei [6] and Aly Jetha with the initial direct-to-DVD movie Babak and Friends - A First Norooz, [7] a Norooz holiday-special starring Shohreh Aghdashloo and Catherine Bell. The company's mission is to create content to teach kids about different stereotypes and different languages.[ citation needed ]

Gordon Chan Kar-Seung, born in 1960, is a Hong Kong film director, writer and producer. His most notable works include Beast Cops, Fist of Legend, Painted Skin, 2000 AD and Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen. In 2011 he announced and launched the productions for Mural, Four Detectives/Four Marshals, and Painted Skin 2. Though for Painted Skin 2 he dropped out as the director and the director's seat was given to Wuershan. His 1996 film First Option was entered into the 20th Moscow International Film Festival.

Babak and Friends - A First Norooz is a direct-to-DVD animated film by Norooz Productions, later renamed Big Bad Boo Studios. The 33-minute cartoon was released in 2005. The film was made to teach children about the Persian New Year Norooz, celebrating the coming of spring and is about a little boy named Babak who is stuck between being Iranian and being American. Through a dream and magical visit by Amoo norooz, Babak learns to be proud of his heritage and celebrates the New Year with his family.

Mixed Nutz is an animated cartoon series produced by Big Bad Boo Studios. The show is about a group of friends from different backgrounds in a fictional town called Dyvercity. The main characters are Babak from Iran, Sanjay from India, Adele from Austria, Damaris from Cuba and Jae from Korea. The show has been referred to as "International" Peanuts for the simplicity of the animation style and its multicultural angle.

Shabnam Rezaei is a Kids TV show creator, director, producer and co-founder of Big Bad Boo Studios and VOD service Oznoz. She is the director and producer of Hulu Original series The Bravest Knight, the first children's series with an LGBTQ protagonist. The all-star cast includes T. R. Knight, Bobby Moynihan, Storm Reid, RuPaul, Wanda Sykes, Wilson Cruz, and Christine Baranski. The Bravest Knight won the 2020 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Kids and Family Programming.

<i>The Bravest Knight</i> American animated series

The Bravest Knight is a 2D animated series, produced by Big Bad Boo Studios and a Hulu original which became the first kids original on the streaming service. The first episodes were added to the streaming service on June 21, 2019 and the other eight on October 11, 2019. The show, which was created by Daniel Errico, and directed by Shabnam Rezaei. It is a fantasy and adventure story focused on how a young kid and pumpkin farmer turned into the "bravest knight" through wild adventures across the lands, which he tells his adopted daughter. The series is one of the first all-ages animations to have an "openly gay main character."

Baby Shark's Big Show! is an animated children's television series based on the "Baby Shark" brand from the South Korean company Pinkfong. SmartStudy, Pinkfong's parent company, co-produces the show with Nickelodeon Animation Studio from the United States.

The film centers on an Iranian couple living in the United States, who are imprisoned in a Los Angeles hotel.

ABC with Kenny G is a Canadian animated television series developed and produced at Big Bad Boo Studios in Vancouver. The musical ABC series is a spin-off from 16 Hudson. The series is about Kensington, Lili's cat from 16 Hudson, who dresses up as a singer and goes down to the Milk & Cookies Jazz club at night, when the humans are sleeping, to teach his animal friends the ABCs. Marcus Mosley, is the main performer in the role of Kensington. He is a gospel singer based in Vancouver.
