Clube Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto is an Angolan men's basketball team based in Luanda. The team is part of the multi-sports club with the same name. The club is attached to the Angolan Armed Forces which is its main sponsor. The team competes at the local level at the Luanda Provincial Basketball Championship and at the BIC Basket. In the past, it has played in the Africa Basketball League competitions.

Primeiro de Agosto is the most decorated team in Africa and holds the record of titles won in the African Basketball Club Champions League with nine championships, their last one being in 2019.

History

In 2002, the club set an all-time Angolan record by winning all domestic and continental competitions, including the 2002 Angola Super Cup, the Angolan league, the Luanda provincial championship, the 2002 Angola cup and the 2002 FIBA Africa Champions Cup, without conceding a single defeat in the entire season.

In 2019, Primeiro won its record ninth African title after defeating AS Salé in Luanda.

The Supertaça de Angola, better known as the Supertaça Vladimiro Romeiro, is a single-match competition in Angolan basketball, played between the Angolan league champion and the Angola Cup winner of the previous season. In case the same team happens to win both the league and the cup, the match will be played between the league winner and the cup runner-up.

The Taça Victorino Cunha is an annual basketball tournament contested by Angolan basketball teams. The tournament was established in 2009, in honour of former Angolan basketball coach Victorino Cunha.

The 2012–13 Angola men's basketball cup was contested by 13 teams and ran from February 3 to April 19, 2013, whereas the four-team women's tournament ran from January 22 to February 2.

The 2013 Angola Basketball Super Cup was contested by Recreativo do Libolo, as the 2012 league champion and Primeiro de Agosto, the 2012 cup winner. Primeiro de Agosto was the winner, making it is's 11th title.

The 2013-14 Angola men's basketball cup is a basketball competition held in Angola. The women's tournament was contested by only three teams following the withdrawal of G.D. Juventude de Viana for administrative reasons. The tournament, that ran from December 10–19, 2013.

The 2014 Angola Basketball Super Cup was contested by Primeiro de Agosto, as the 2013 league champion and Petro Atlético, the 2013 cup winner. Primeiro de Agosto was the winner.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2014 Victorino Cunha Cup</span> Sports season

The Victorino Cunha Cup is an annual Angolan basketball tournament held in honour of former Angolan basketball coach Victorino Cunha. The 6th edition (2014), took place at the Pavilhão da Cidadela, from October 13 to 18, 2014 and was contested by four local teams and included for the first time a foreign team. The tournament, played in a round robin system was won by Primeiro de Agosto.

The 2015 Angola Basketball Super Cup was contested by Recreativo do Libolo, as the 2014 league champion and Petro Atlético, the 2014 cup winner. Petro Atlético won its 6th title.

The 2017 Angola Basketball Super Cup was contested by Primeiro de Agosto, as the 2016 league champion and Recreativo do Libolo, the 2016 cup winner. Recreativo do Libolo won its 3rd title.
