C. V. Pappachan (born 20 May 1965) is a former Indian football player and a retired police officer from Thrissur, Kerala. He captained India in a couple of tournaments. [1]
Born in Parappur in Thrissur district, Pappachan turned professional in 1982 and played as a striker. Prior to being recruited for Kerala Police team by the then DGP M. K. Joseph, he played as striker representing Sree Kerala Varma college and Calicut University and played in an international university tournament in Japan. He played for Kerala Police team during 1982-1998 and for FC Kochin during 1998-99. Pappachan captained Kerala Police team and Kerala State team. He also represented India in many tournaments including the 1987 Calicut Nehru Cup International Football Tournament and the 1991 Thiruvananthapuram Nehru Cup. He scored the lone goal for India when they met Hungary 1991 edition of Nehru Cup. Pappachan played in the Indian senior B National Team at the Sri Lanka Independence Cup in 1998. He represented Kerala in the Santosh Trophy tournament eight times. He has also played in many national and international tournaments. He served as Commandant in Kerala Police Academy (KEPA), Thrissur. He was conferred the President's police medal in 2020. He retired from Kerala Police on 31 May 2021. [2]
In a career spanning over a decade, Pappachan has played for several clubs and represented Calicut University, his home state Kerala, and India.
Pappachan made his debut as a Panchari Melam performer at a function in the Thekkinkad Maidan on 31 August 2009. Speaker of Kerala legislative assembly K. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the function. He is now a trained percussionist.
Inivalappil Mani Vijayan, also known by the nickname Kalo Harin (Blackbuck), is a former professional football player who also captained the India national football team. He played as a striker, where he formed a successful attacking partnership with Bhaichung Bhutia for the India national football team in the late nineties and early 2000s. Vijayan was crowned Indian Player of the Year in 1993, 1997 and 1999, the first player to win the award multiple times. He was also awarded the Arjuna Award in 2003.
Vatta Parambath Sathyan, popularly known as V. P. Sathyan, was a former Indian professional footballer who played the centre back position. He was the captain of the India national football team from 1991 to 1995. He was named the 1992 AIFF Player of the Year.

Trivandrum city has various sports venues such as Trivandrum International Stadium, Jimmy George Indoor Stadium, University Stadium (Thiruvananthapuram), Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium and Central Stadium whereas Kochi city has stadiums such as Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium (Kochi) and Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium. An international astro turf hockey stadium is located at Kollam city. Other major stadiums are EMS Stadium in Kozhikode, Malappuram District Sports Complex Stadium in Manjeri, Kannur Indoor Stadium in Kannur, Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Kollam and many more. All these stadiums attest to the mass appeal of such sports among Keralites.
