The California 8 Hours is a sports car endurance race for GT3 and GT4 specification cars held at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, as part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. [1] The first annual race was run in 2017. TCR Touring Cars were added to the race in 2018. [2] Over the three editions of the event, it was broadcast in part on television by CBS Sports Network, and streamed live across the internet. [3] [4] [5]

Contents

For the first two years, the California 8 Hours served as the season finale of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. In 2019, the date was brought forward to fill the second race of the season. The event was replaced as the US leg of IGTC by the newly created Indianapolis 8 Hours event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the 2020 Intercontinental GT Challenge. [6]

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is an annual event held at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. Its purpose is to provide an event in which historic racecars can compete. It takes place over the course of one weekend every mid-August. It was first established by Steve Earle in 1974 as the Monterey Historic Automobile Races. Earle organized the meeting for his friends to race their cars at Laguna Seca. The event acts as a part of Monterey Car Week, which includes the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and other events.

The event began in 1950 as a race on the roads of Pebble Beach, California. In 1951, it was added to the new SCCA National Sports Car Championship. When Laguna Seca Raceway was built in 1957, the races moved there. The event fell dormant after the National Championship was discontinued in 1957, but was revived by the SCCA's new United States Road Racing Championship in 1963. The race fell dormant again in 1969, and was revived in 1973 with the IMSA GT Championship.

The 2018 WeatherTech Raceway California 8 Hours was the second edition of the WeatherTech Raceway California 8 Hours race held on WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on 28 October 2018. The race was contested with GT3-spec cars, GT Cup-spec cars, GT4-spec cars, MARC cars and TCR-touring cars. The race was organized by the Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO).

The 2020 Intercontinental GT Challenge was the fifth season of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The season again features five rounds, starting with the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour on 2 February and concluding with the Kyalami 9 Hours on 12 December. Dennis Olsen is the defending Drivers' champion and Porsche is the defending Manufacturers' champion.

The 2020 GT World Challenge America powered by AWS is the 14th season of the United States Auto Club's GT World Challenge America, the third season under ownership of the SRO Motorsports Group and the first season without Blancpain sponsorship. The season began on 7 March in Austin and will end on 4 October at Indianapolis.

The 2020 Indianapolis 8 Hours was an endurance race held on 4 October 2020 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, in Indiana, United States. The event was open to cars in GT classes, namely GT3 and GT4. It was the inaugural running of the Indianapolis 8 Hour, replacing the previous American leg of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the California 8 Hours held at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. It was the second leg of the 2020 Intercontinental GT Challenge and the sixth and final round of the 2020 GT World Challenge America. The GT World Challenge America results would be determined by the race results after three hours instead of the full eight hours.

Russell Ward is an American racing driver who currently competes in the IMSA SportsCar Championship for HTP Winward Motorsport. Ward also serves as Winward Racing's team principal.

DXDT Racing is a professional sports car team based in Statesville, North Carolina, founded by competitive off-shore sailor and businessman David Askew in 2014.
