The People's Republic of China competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. [1] China won 289 medals (132 gold, 92 silver and 65 bronze), leading the medal count for the tenth time in Asian Games history.

China participated in the field hockey event with their women's team that was entered in the pool A. [10] The team advance to the semifinal stage, but was defeated by Indian team with the score 0–1. [11] In the bronze medal match, the team dominate the game, and grabbed the bronze medal after beating South Korea with the score 2–1. [12] Gu Bingfeng was awarded as the top scorer in the women's team event after amassed 13 goals. [13]

Weightlifting

China has prepared 14 weightlifters to compete at the Games, but the athletes not allowed to compete due to the International Weightlifting Federation’s (IWF) ban on the country. [30]

Wrestling

China took 6 medals (2 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze) at the competition. The gold medals won by Zhou Feng who was a gold medalist in the freestyle −75 kg 2014 Asian Games, and the other one won by Zhou Qian. [31]

At the latest edition in 2014 Incheon, the country had collected 79 gold, 71 silver, and 84 bronze medals.

Hong Kong made its debut at the Asian Games in 1954 Manila, and the best achievement for the territory was in 2010 Asian Games held in neighboring Guangzhou, finishing with 8 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals totaling 40 medals. At the previous edition in held 4 years later in Incheon, the total number of medals increased to 42, but the number of gold medals fell to 6. In Indonesia the performance of local athletes was satisfactory, improving the results obtained in 2010 and 2014 with 46 medals achieving the best results at the games.

At the last edition in Incheon, the country placed 14 in the medals tally, with 5 gold medals from squash, sailing, and karate. In 2018 edition, Malaysia was represented by 447 athletes and 140 officials at the Games. Abdul Azim Mohamad Zabidi, the Appeals Committee chairman of the Olympic Council of Malaysia was the chief of the delegation.
