Darmin Nasution (born 21 December 1948) is an Indonesian economist who served as Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs from 2015 to 2019. He was previously Governor of Bank of Indonesia,serving the role from 2010 to 2013 during Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's administration.
Before taking up various positions within the Indonesian government,Nasution was a faculty member at the University of Indonesia School of Economics,where he was Deputy Chair of the Lembaga Penyelidikan Ekonomi dan Masyarakat (LPEM,or Institute for Economic and Social Research) from 1987,and Head of the LPEM from 1989. [2]
Nasution was born on 21 December 1948 in Pasar Maga,North Sumatra to a Batak family. [3] He graduated with Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Indonesia,in 1976,and received his Master's and Doctorate degrees in the same major from the University of Paris,France in 1986.
Nasution served as Director General of for Financial Institutions in the Indonesian Ministry of Finance from 2000–2005. He was subsequently appointed chairman of Indonesia's Capital Market and Financial Institution Supervisory Agency in 2006 [4] and was later transferred to the post of Director General of Taxation in the Ministry of Finance.
In July 2009 Nasution was appointed Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia. [5] He was sworn into office on 27 July 2009. [6] Nasution immediately became acting governor of Bank Indonesia because the previous governor,Boediono,had resigned several months earlier in May to run for election as Vice President of Indonesia as team mate of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. [7]
Nasution was subsequently appointed as Governor of Bank Indonesia on 1 September 2010, [8] after parliamentary hearings to consider his nomination as governor. [9] He was succeeded as governor when Agus Martowardojo was appointed in May 2013.
On 12 August 2015,in a cabinet reshuffle by President Joko Widodo,Nasution was appointed as the Coordinating Minister of Economics,replacing Sofyan Djalil in the post. [10]
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono,commonly referred to by his initials SBY,is an Indonesian politician and retired army general who served as the sixth president of Indonesia from 2004 to 2014. A member of the Democratic Party of Indonesia,he served as the 4th leader of the Democratic Party from 2014 until 2020,8th and 10th coordinating minister of politics and security affairs of Indonesia from 2000 until 2001,and again from 2001 until 2004. He also served as the president of the Assembly and chair of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute. He was also the former chairman of ASEAN due to Indonesia's hosting of the 18th and 19th ASEAN Summits.

Previously,he served as Minister of Finance from 2010 to 2013 after succeeding former minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati,who resigned from the office and took position as Managing Director of the World Bank Group.
Presidential elections were held in Indonesia on 8 July 2009. The elections returned a president and vice president for the 2009–2014 term. Incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono,elected with a 20% margin in the 2004 election,sought a second term against former President Megawati Sukarnoputri in a rematch of the 2004 election,as well as incumbent Vice President Jusuf Kalla. Securing a majority of the votes in a landslide victory in the first round,Yudhoyono was re-elected without the need to proceed to a second round,scheduled to be held on 8 September if no candidate received a majority of the popular vote. Yudhoyono was officially declared the victor of the election on 23 July 2009,by the General Election Commission (KPU). At the time of his re-election victory,Yudhoyono,with nearly 74 million votes in his favour,held the record for the highest number of votes for a single person in any democratic election in history,surpassing Barack Obama's total of 69 million votes in the 2008 United States presidential election. His record was surpassed by his successor Joko Widodo who won 85 million votes in 2019.

He was a vice minister of Ministry of Transportation and later become acting Minister of Transportation served under Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's second administration.
The second inauguration of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was inaugurated as the 6th President of Indonesia took place on Tuesday 20 October 2009 at the DPR/MPR Building,Jakarta. This event marked the official start of his second term Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as president and Boediono as vice President of Indonesia. Both were sworn in after winning presidential election.
