The David di Donatello Award for Best Actor (Italian: David di Donatello per il miglior attore protagonista) is a film award presented annually by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano (ACI, Academy of Italian Cinema) to recognize the outstanding performance in a leading role of a male actor in an Italian film released during the year preceding the ceremony. [1] The award was first given in 1956, and became competitive in 1981. [2]

The David di Donatello Award for Best Screenplay was a film award presented by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano to recognize outstanding screenwriting in a film released in Italy during the year preceding the ceremony. The award was presented annually from 1975 to 2016, when it was split between the Adapted and Original Screenplay categories.

The David di Donatello for Best European Film is a category in the David di Donatello Awards, described as "Italy’s answer to the Oscars". It was awarded by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano to recognize the most outstanding non-Italian film released in Europe during the year preceding the ceremony. The award was launched at the 2004 ceremony and cancelled after the 2018 event, following which it was incorporated into the Best Foreign Film award.

The Accademia del Cinema Italiano is an organization that gives out the David di Donatello Awards. It was founded in 1955 as a part of the Open Gate Club, originally with the name Ente David di Donatello. The organization became independent in 1963. In 2007 it assumed its current name.

The 65th David di Donatello ceremony, presented by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano, honored the best in Italian cinema. The ceremony was hosted by presenter Carlo Conti on 8 May 2020. The awards ceremony was initially set for 3 April 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 64th David di Donatello ceremony, presented by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano, was held on 27 March 2019 to honor the best in Italian cinema in 2018. It was hosted by Carlo Conti.
