Dayanand Colony is part of the Lajpat Nagar area of Delhi. It falls under Lajpat Nagar-4 in South Delhi. By 1957, it was named after Dayanand Saraswati. [1]

The area is mostly occupied by Punjabis and Sidhis and Multanis who were immigrants from Pakistan. It has the largest wholesale market for ladies suits and saris in Delhi and numerous food outlets.

Lala Lajpat Rai

Lala Lajpat Rai was an Indian independence activist. He played a pivotal role in the Indian Independence movement. He was popularly known as Punjab Kesari. He was one of the three Lal Bal Pal triumvirates. He was also associated with activities of Punjab National Bank and Lakshmi Insurance Company in their early stages in 1894. He died while protesting against British rule when a group of Britishers beat him to death on 17 November 1928.

Lajpat Nagar is an interchange station between Violet Line and Pink Line of the Delhi Metro in Delhi. It is located between Jangpura and Moolchand on the Violet Line in Lajpat Nagar. The station was opened with the first section of the Violet Line on 3 October 2010, in time for the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony on the same day. It became an interchange station with the opening of the Pink Line on 6 August 2018. The station on the Pink Line is underground, whereas the Violet line station is elevated. In future, the line will be extended to Maujpur-Babarpur,creating one of the world's longest ring lines in the city. The Maujpur-Babarpur to Shiv Vihar route will then act as a branch line.
