Douglas Wylie (born 20 May 1963) is a former Scotland international rugby union player and now coach. [1]

Amateur career

Wylie was born in Edinburgh. He captained Stewart's Melville in 1994. [2]

Provincial career

He played for Edinburgh District in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. [3]

He played for Combined Scottish Districts on 1 March 1986 against South of Scotland. [4]

International career

He was capped by Scotland 'B' three times in the seasons between 1984 and 1985.

He was capped by Scotland 'A' six times in the seasons between 1990 and 1993.

He had his full senior international debut, age 21, as fly-half against Australia at Murrayfield on 8 December 1984. [1] He went on tour with Scotland on all but one of the ten that they made since 1984. [2] Some tours, such as the 1988 Scotland rugby union tour of Zimbabwe didn’t award full caps. His last international was against France on 19 March 1994. [1]

He won 18 international caps.

Coaching career

He coached in New Zealand, then coached Kirkcaldy RFC in 2001. [5]

He had coaching roles with Melrose and the Scotland national under-20 rugby union team. He later has had a business career in security.

The South of Scotland District is a Scottish amateur rugby union team which plays in the amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship. It draws its players from the South of Scotland, mainly the Scottish Borders where there has always been a proud tradition of rugby union. Historically the South team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. After rugby union became a professional sport in 1995, the team was replaced in 1996 by the new Border Reivers team based in the same geographical area as the South and who wore the same colours as the old team.

Howe of Fife RFC is a rugby union club based in Cupar, Fife, Scotland. It was founded in 1921, and they play in blue and white hoops. David Dickie Howie was a rugby union player, who represented Scotland and Kirkcaldy RFC. He enlisted as a trooper in the local yeomanry in September 1914, at the start of the First World War. After undergoing training in England, he was commissioned second lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery in April 1915 and despatched to Gallipoli in August. During the evacuation of Anzac Bay, he contracted pneumonia, and died in Cairo, Egypt, after shooting himself with a revolver while in a state of delirium. He is buried at the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery.
