Dyfed is a preserved county in southwestern Wales. It is a mostly rural area with a coastline on the Irish Sea and the Bristol Channel.
Alun Edward Michael is a Welsh Labour and Co-operative politician. He served as Secretary of State for Wales from 1998 to 1999 and then as the first First Secretary of Wales and Leader of Welsh Labour from 1999 to 2000. He went on to serve as South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner from 2012 to 2024.

The Kingdom of Dyfed, one of several Welsh petty kingdoms that emerged in 5th-century sub-Roman Britain in southwest Wales, was based on the former territory of the Demetae. The medieval Irish narrative, The Expulsion of the Déisi, attributing the kingdom's founding to Eochaid, son of Artchorp, being forced across the Irish sea, in the 5th century; his descendants founding the line of the kings of Dyfed, down to "Tualodor mac Rígin". The Normans invaded Wales, and by 1138 incorporated Dyfed into a new shire called Pembrokeshire after the Norman castle built in the Cantref of Penfro and under the rule of the Marcher Earl of Pembroke.
Christine Margery Gwyther is a Welsh Labour politician. She won the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency seat in the first National Assembly for Wales elections in 1999 and held it until 2007. She lost her seat in the 2007 Welsh Assembly Elections, to Conservative candidate Angela Burns.

Until the closing of Bravo in 2011, older episodes were then shown Channel One until its closure also in 2011, then Sky1. After the fifth series the show was replaced by Cop Squad. The 2012 police and crime commissioner elections were polls held in most police areas in England and Wales on Thursday 15 November. The direct election of police and crime commissioners (PCCs) was originally scheduled for May 2012 but was postponed in order to secure the passage of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 through the House of Lords. The government considers the elected commissioners to have a stronger mandate than the "unelected and invisible police authorities that they replace". The elections took place alongside by-elections for the House of Commons in Cardiff South and Penarth, Corby and Manchester Central, and a mayoral election in Bristol.

Desmond Cecil Parkinson was a chief superintendent in the Dyfed-Powys Police. He was national secretary of the Police Superintendents' Association of England and Wales. He stood as the Conservative Party candidate for the role of Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Police.
