British hip hop, also known as UK rap, is a genre of music, and a culture that covers a variety of styles of hip hop music made in the United Kingdom. It is generally classified as one of a number of styles of urban music. British hip hop can also be referred to as Brit-hop, a term coined and popularised mainly by British Vogue magazine and the BBC. British hip hop was originally influenced by the dub/toasting introduced to the United Kingdom by Jamaican migrants in the 1950s–70s, who eventually developed uniquely influenced rapping in order to match the rhythm of the ever-increasing pace and aggression of Jamaican-influenced dub in the UK. Toasting and soundsystem culture was also influential in genres outside of hip hop that still included rapping – such as grime, jungle, and UK garage.
Grime is a genre of electronic music that emerged in London in the early 2000s. It developed out of earlier UK dance style UK garage, and draws influences from jungle, dancehall, and hip hop. The style is typified by rapid, syncopated breakbeats, generally around 140 beats per minute, and often features an aggressive or jagged electronic sound. Emceeing is a significant element of the style, and lyrics often revolve around gritty depictions of urban life.
Paris Moore-Williams, better known by his stage name P Money, is a British grime MC, rapper and songwriter from New Cross, South East London, who is also active in the bassline scene. He is best known for his live performances as well as for songs such as Slang Like This, Anthemic and Round the Clock. N.E was the founding member of Lewisham-based grime crew OGz and p-money released one album with the group entitled OGz Season Vol. 1. He also appeared on the sixth edition of highly popular grime DVD Lord of the Mics in a grime clash (battle).
Richard Kylea Cowie Jr., better known by his stage name Wiley and in his early career Wiley Kat, is a British rapper, songwriter, DJ and record producer from Bow, East London. He is considered a key figure in the creation of grime music and often labelled the "Godfather of Grime". In the early 2000s, he independently released a series of highly influential eskibeat instrumentals on white label vinyl, such as the first in the series "Eskimo" and is known as a grime MC both for his solo work and for material released with his crew Roll Deep.
Roll Deep are a British grime crew. They were founded in 2001 by Wiley shortly before the disbandment of UK garage crew Pay As U Go Cartel.

Kane Brett Robinson, better known as Kano, is a British rapper, songwriter and actor from East Ham, London. A significant contributor to grime music, Kano is widely considered one of the pioneers of grime music and culture, alongside artists such as Wiley and Dizzee Rascal. In 2004, Kano released his debut single "Ps and Qs", which was an underground hit within the grime community.

Boy Better Know, often abbreviated as BBK, is a British grime collective and record label. The collective was founded in North London in 2005 as an independent record label by brothers Jamie and Joseph Adenuga, better known as Jme, and Skepta. All members of the collective use the record label as a means to publish their music.
Logan Sama is an English Grime DJ from Brentwood, Essex. He has appeared regularly throughout his career on radio stations Rinse, Kiss 100 and BBC Radio 1. He also currently runs the record labels Adamantium Music, Earth616 and KeepinItGrimy through which he has released projects for artists and producers across vinyl and digital formats. He also founded KeepinItGrimy, a brand entirely focused on Grime activity. He is very active in the local community and is always willing to dispense sound advice to both up-and-coming MCs and DJs alike.
Zomby is a British electronic musician who began releasing music in 2007. He has released music on several labels, including Hyperdub, Werk Discs, and 4AD. Zomby's influences include oldschool jungle music and Wiley's eskibeat sound.
Noisia is a Dutch electronic music trio consisting of members Nik Roos, Martijn van Sonderen and Thijs de Vlieger from Groningen, Netherlands. They produce a wide variety of music including drum and bass, dubstep, breakbeat and house. They have released on several labels including Skrillex's OWSLA, deadmau5's mau5trap and Jay-Z's Roc Nation. Noisia previously combined with the group Foreign Beggars to form the supergroup side project I Am Legion. They released their collaborative self-titled album on 2 September 2013. Noisia also have production credits under the pseudonym Nightwatch, such as for their work with Alexis Jordan, Hadouken!, Wiley and Wretch 32. They produced Hadouken!'s album For the Masses that charted at number 19 on the UK Albums Chart.
Ruff Sqwad are an English grime crew. The group was formed in 2001 in Bow, East London. Various members and affiliates of the crew are considered key figures in the early development of grime music.
"Mainstream Money" is the third and final single from grime vocalist Tinchy Stryder's debut album, Star in the Hood. The single was released in November 2007. The song was written and produced by renowned grime music producer Maniac, who has claimed that the instrumental for the track is the one he is most proud of. The song was also notable for being heard on the BBC soap "EastEnders" several times in late 2007. The track "Sorry, You Are?" was also released as part of the single. It features vocals from fellow rapper Chipmunk, and later featured as a hidden track on Star in the Hood, and also appeared on Cloud 9: The EP.
"On a Level" is a single from English grime artist Wiley, produced by longtime collaborator Skepta. It is the first official single released from Wiley's tenth studio album Snakes & Ladders.
"Pulse X" is a grime instrumental by producer Youngstar of the crew Musical Mob. First released on 12" vinyl in March 2002 and given a wider release in July of the same year, Pulse X is widely considered to be the first ever grime beat and has been described as "year zero" for the genre. It was re-released by White Peach Records on 16 November 2015 in the form of an extended play.

Deshane Cornwall, known professionally as Frisco, is a British grime MC, songwriter and record producer who is part of the Boy Better Know (BBK) music label which includes Jme, Skepta, Jammer, among others. He has released three solo albums and a series of mixtapes guested on tracks by his label mates and established a successful monthly Grime event in East London, contributing to the popularity of Grime within the UK music scene.
Danielle Gooding, professionally known as Flava D, is a British UK garage, grime and bassline DJ and music producer from Bournemouth, England. She was previously signed to the Butterz record label and is now signed to Hospital Records. She is one third of the UK garage act TQD, alongside fellow producers Royal-T and DJ Q.
Lord of the Mics is a series of recorded grime clashes, headed by Jammer and Chad ‘Ratty’ Stennett. Each edition of LOTM features grime MC's participating in recorded clashes, wherein they 'battle' each other over grime instrumentals. Various notable grime artists have participated in Lord of the Mics, such as Skepta, Wiley, Kano, P Money, Big H, and Canadian MC Tre Mission. LOTM was originally launched in 2004. The first clash to be filmed for LOTM, Wiley versus Kano, was filmed in Jammers basement. The series was originally only published via DVD. LOTM was the first platform that released filmed grime clashes.
