Exodia is the annual techno-cultural fest of Indian Institute of Technology Mandi. It is a three-day-long event held every year. The first edition was held in 2012 and since then it has grown to be one of the largest student-run college fests of the Himalayas. [1] [2] It is one of the biggest events of the Himalayan region, and attracts crowds from throughout northern India. The fest also tries to promote the Himalayan region and showcase its culture and beauty by orchestrating some of its events for the same. [3]

Inception

IIT Mandi is the newest of the new IITs. The year 2011, fueled by the immense desire of the students saw major growth in the cultural activities of the Institute, which ultimately culminated in Exodia 2012, the first major event as well as the first techno-cult fest of the Institute. For its first two years, the fest was organized in the transit Campus. The year 2014 saw for the first time, the fest moving to the permanent campus at Kamand, Mandi. This provides an opportunity for scaling the fest, as well as for proper exposure of the scenic beauty that exists in the Himalayas.

Events

As a college fest, the main participants of Exodia are the youth, and so the event is primarily centered on them. The fest encompasses a variety of events, ranging from literary, cultural, technical to online and Informal events. There is I-Magination, the online photography contest as well as the Meme Challenge. There is a plethora of events catering to the dance fanatics, the singers and youths who love to groove to the music, like Bandslam, Synchronians, Groove Fanatics, and also, the Exodia Idol. [4] [5] The event does not hold back when it comes to literary events, offering a "No holds barred" heated debate in the form of "The Devil's Advocate", extempore based "React and Act" and an all-time classic "The Biggest Liar". Being primarily a technology college, it also offers a platform for the tech enthusiasts to showcase their skills in programming, research, robotics. [6]

Notable personalities

Exodia has witnessed many influential personalities since its inception. Richard Stallman, founder of the Free Software Foundation, was present at the first edition of Exodia, and left a lasting impression. The event has also seen Vic Hayes, known as the father of the WiFi, and Mark Tully. The last held edition of the fest, in 2018 witnessed the performance of Progressive Brothers as one of the Pro-nite headlines.

Shaastra is the annual technical festival of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai, India. The Sanskrit word ‘Shaastra’ means a subject of study/branch of knowledge and the festival accordingly consists of various engineering, science and technology competitions, summits, lectures, video conferences, exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops. The festival is traditionally held over four days and four nights during the first week of January. It has so far seen twenty one editions, having started in its current avatar in the year 2000. Shaastra attracts participation from all over India, and seeks to provide collegiate students with a platform to showcase their scientific and engineering talents. Shaastra is entirely student managed and is the first such event in the world to be ISO 9001:2015 certified for implementing a Quality Management System. It is one of Asia's largest completely student-run techno-managerial festivals.

Wissenaire is the annual techno-management festival of Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar held in the Arugul, permanent campus of IIT Bhubaneswar. It is one of the most awaited technical festival of East India. It is a three-day-long event usually held during the third week of January every year. The word Wissenaire is derived from the German word ‘Wissen’ meaning knowledge and ‘aire’ meaning free. Thus it is justified by its tagline knowledge runs free. Wissenaire encompasses various sectors of technology, science and management. These include quizzing, coding, designing, robotics, planning and testing the creativity and innovative spirit of the young technical minds.

Thomso is the annual cultural fest of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. Established in 1982, the festival is held over a span of three days at the end of October and the beginning of November. The 2018 edition consisted of over 150+ events and hosted 9000+ guest students from 200 colleges across India, in addition to more than 12,000 students from the hosting institution.

ATMOS is the annual techno-management festival of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, located in Hyderabad, India. It is known for a wide range of events, such as workshops, quizzes, lectures, technical exhibitions and competitions. Among the notable events conducted annually during it are the national level quiz Enigma and BITS MUN Hyderabad. Started in 2012, ATMOS aims at improving the technical culture among Indian colleges as well as providing a platform to showcase their abilities. In its sixth year now, ATMOS is growing rapidly with participation from students, academicians, entrepreneurs and speakers from all over India.

Indian Institute of Technology Goa is an autonomous public university located in Goa. Ever since an IIT was allotted to Goa by the Central government in 2014, the new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Goa started functioning from July, 2016 in a temporary campus housed at Goa Engineering College (GEC) Campus located at Farmagudi, Goa. Currently, it offers BTech, MTech and PhD courses in various core and one non-core branches majorly in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics and Computing. It also offers MTech and PhD courses.
