Floorball South Africa (FSA) is the national governing body for the sport of floorball in South Africa. Floorball South Africa is an affiliate member of the International Floorball Federation (IFF).
Floorball South Africa became IFF Member number 56 in 2013 and was the third member from Africa following the member associations from Sierra Leone and Mozambique. FSA President, Michael Kliment officially introduced the sport to South Africa after consultations with some hockey players seeking alternative but similar sports. After a meeting with IFF officials, a development plan tailored for FSA was agreed on. Subsequently, Floorball South Africa was established on 19 July 2013 leading to its formal acceptance as an affiliate member on 1 September 2013. [2] [3]
The first floorball match was played on 18 January 2014 during a FSA floorball promotion and training session in Port Elizabeth. It was played on a basketball court with the aim of attracting promising floorball players and building a database of floorball players to facilitate the creation of a league. [4]
Floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. It is played indoors with 96–115.5 cm-long (37.8–45.5 in) sticks and a 70–72 mm-diameter (2.76–2.83 in) plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three twenty-minute periods. The sport of bandy also played a role in the game's development.

The F-liiga is the top men’s floorball league in Finland. The league was founded as Salibandyn SM-sarja in 1986 by the Finnish Floorball Federation (SSBL). It was renamed to Salibandyliiga for the 1994–95 season. The Salibandyliiga was operated by the company SSBL Salibandy Oy, a subsidiary of the Finnish Floorball Federation. The current name F-liiga is used since season 2020–21.
The Champions Cup is floorball tournament organized by the International Floorball Federation for the best clubs from the top four countries according to IFF World Ranking. As of 2023, those are Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, both for men and women. The tournament takes place every year in January both for men's and women's teams, that won in the previous season in their national leagues. Those are Finnish F-liiga, Swedish Svenska Superligan, Czech men's Superliga florbalu and women's Extraliga žen ve florbale and Swiss Unihockey Prime League. Since 2024, winners of national cups will also attend. That means, there will eight men's and either women's teams in the tournament in total.
The Men's World Floorball Championship is an international floorball competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the International Floorball Federation (IFF), the sport's global governing body. It is distinct from the Women's World Floorball Championship, which is for women's teams. They were preceded by the European Championships which were held twice in 1994 and 1995. Originally played in May–June, the IFF decided in 2007 to move the tournament to early-December starting in 2008.
The United States Floorball Association (USFbA) is the highest governing body for floorball in the United States of America. The USFbA is a self-governed organization, recognized by both state and federal governments. It is based in Incline Village, NV.
Finland Men's National Floorball Team is the national floorball team of Finland. The national team was founded in 1985 and they played their first official game against Sweden in 1985. Finland has won four World Championships and 1 European Championships (1995). Finland has appeared in every World and European Championships tournament organised by the IFF and is the only team with Sweden to have won such a tournament.
The 2009 Men's under-19 World Floorball Championships were the fifth world championships in men's under-19 floorball. The tournament took place between 6 and 10 May 2009 in Raisio and Turku, Finland.

The 2019 IFF Women's World Floorball Championships was the 12th staging of the Women's World Floorball Championship, contested by the senior women's national teams of the members of the International Floorball Federation (IFF), the sport's global governing body. The final tournament took place in Neuchâtel, Switzerland from 7 to 15 December 2019. Switzerland played hosts for this event for the third time.
Superliga florbalu is the highest league in the league system of Czech men's floorball and comprises the top 14 Czech floorball teams. The season culminates in a play-off played by the best ten teams. The first season began in 1993–94.
