Future Coalition is an American nonprofit organization resourcing movement-building solutions led by and for young people addressing the needs of their communities. [1] [2] [3]
Future Coalition was incubated by March On as their "youth arm." [4] [5]
Activist and social entrepreneur Katie Eder founded the organization and currently serves as the Board Chair.
Corryn Grace Freeman, a Florida-based social activist, joined as the organization's Executive Director in May 2023.
Future Coalition first launched as coalition of over 60 youth-led activist organizations focused on issues such as gun violence prevention, climate change, and social and racial justice. [6] [7] [8]
The organizations from the coalition included 18by Vote, National Youth Rights Association, Bridge the Divide, Sunrise Movement, Box the Ballot, Students for Gun Legislation, Chicago Fuerte, Coalition of Students, DC Teens Action, Embracing Green, Global Minds, Indivisible Students, iMatter, March For Our Lives National, Moco4Change, March for Our Lives, National Die In, National School Walkout, Orange Generation, Parents Promise to Kids, Platform, Redefy, Shattering the Silence, Student Voice, Team Enough, Triangle People Power, Youth Empower, Zero Hour, and 50 Miles More. In September 2018, Future Coalition launched the #WalkoutToVote, a campaign with the goal of getting every eligible young person to vote in the 2018 midterm elections by encouraging them to walk out of their classrooms on election day and march to the polls to cast their ballots. [13] [14] Over 500 individual student-led walkouts took place in schools across the country. [15] [16] The campaign was supported on social media by Hillary Clinton, Snoop Dogg, Piper Perabo, Sarah Silverman, Bobby Umar, Debra Messing, Jane Lynch, Jon Cooper, Eric Swalwell, and HJ Benjamin and was credited with influencing high voter turnout among young people in the 2018 midterms. Future Coalition was involved in helping organize the September 20 Climate Strike, an international strike and protest led by young people and adults held three days before the UN Climate Summit in NYC on September 20 across the US and world to demand action be taken to address the climate crisis. The event is one of the largest climate mobilizations in US history. The event is a part of the school strike for climate movement. [18]
Future Coalition coordinated Earth Day Live, a three-day livestream celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in the United States.
Future Coalition coordinated the Vote With Us campaign to promote early voting in the 2020 United States presidential election. The campaign featured in-person events across the country and a virtual rally featuring notable celebrities and voting activists. [19]
Future Coalition and other notable civic organizations coordinated March On For Voting Rights is a mass mobilization on August 28, the 58th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic March on Washington organized by March On and other notable civil rights leaders in response to Senate Republicans blocking the For The People Act.
Student activism or campus activism is work by students to cause political, environmental, economic, or social change. In addition to education, student groups often play central roles in democratization and winning civil rights.
Youth activism is the participation in community organizing for social change by persons between the ages of 15–24. Youth activism has led to a shift in political participation and activism. A notable shift within youth activism is the rise of “Alter-Activism” resulting in an emphasis on lived experiences and connectivity amongst young activists. The young activists have taken lead roles in public protest and advocacy around many issues like climate change, abortion rights and gun violence. Different from past protest or advocacy, technology has become the backbone to many of these modern youth movements. It has been shown in multiple studies that internet use along with seeking information online is shown to have positive impacts on political engagement. Popular applications like Twitter, Instagram and YouTube have become the newest tools for young activists in the 21st century. Technology and the use of digital media has changed the way youth participate in activism globally, and youth are more active in media than older generations.
The youth vote in the United States is the cohort of 18–24 year-olds as a voting demographic, though some scholars define youth voting as voters under 30. Many policy areas specifically affect the youth of the United States, such as education issues and the juvenile justice system; however, young people also care about issues that affect the population as a whole, such as national debt and war.
The Institute of Politics (IOP) is an institute of Harvard Kennedy School at Harvard University that was created to serve as a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy and to inspire Harvard undergraduates to consider careers in politics and public service. The IOP works to bring the academic world into contact with the world of politics and public affairs in a non-partisan way to promote public service.
Power Shift Network is a North American non-profit organization made up of a network of youth-led social and environmental justice organizations working together to build the youth clean energy and climate movement. It runs campaigns in the United States and Canada to build grassroots power and advocate for tangible changes on climate change and social justice at local, state, national and international levels in North America. The organization changed its name from Energy Action Coalition in July 2016 in order to reflect its new leadership and it shift from a coalition to a network structure. The Power Shift Network's members, which include other non-profit organizations and student groups focused on environmental justice, social justice, and climate change, focus their organizing and campaigns on campuses, communities, corporate practices, and politics. The Power Shift Network is part of the Global Youth Climate Movement.

Sunrise Movement is an American 501(c)(4) political action organization that advocates political action on climate change. When launched in 2017, the movement's goal was to elect proponents of renewable energy in the 2018 midterm elections, first in the Democratic primaries and then in the general election held on November 6, 2018. Since the midterm elections, the movement has been working towards shifting the Overton window on climate policy to center the environmental program known as the Green New Deal.

She is on the administration committee of the People's Climate Movement and a former member of Sunrise Movement and Extinction Rebellion. She cofounded Re-Earth Initiative, an international nonprofit organization that is inclusive and intersectional “just as the climate movement should be.” Xiye is pronounced "she-yeh", [ʃi-jɛ], meaning not available.
Jerome Foster II is an American environmental activist. He is the youngest-ever White House Advisor in United States history, as a member of the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council within the Biden administration. Foster is a leading voice for marginalized and working class communities in spaces pushing for social, economic and environmental justice. Foster is one of the major organizers of Fridays for Future; holding weekly climate strikes at the front gates of the White House for over 57 weeks. He has previously served as a congressional intern for U.S. Representative John Lewis at the age of 16 and served on the Washington DC State Board of Education's Advisory Council at the age of 14.
