The Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling is the Academy Award given to the best achievement in makeup and hairstyling for film. Traditionally, three films have been nominated each year with exceptions in the early 1980s and 2002 when there were only two nominees; in 1999, when there were four nominees. Beginning with the 92nd Academy Awards, five films were nominated.

The British Academy Television Craft Award for Best Make-Up & Hair Design is one of the categories presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) within the British Academy Television Craft Awards, the craft awards were established in 2000 with their own, separate ceremony as a way to spotlight technical achievements, without being overshadowed by the main production categories. According to the BAFTA website, the eligibility of this category is "limited to artists directly responsible for the make up and hair design in the programme."

The first ceremony took place on December 10 and 11, 2022, at Wilshire Ebell Theatre, Los Angeles. Awards for children's programming were previously presented at both the Daytime Emmys and the Primetime Emmys.

Stacey has worked as a stylist on 87 notable productions, starting on classic TV shows like Martin and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The styles executed in Dolemite Is My Name currently appear on exhibit at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, California.
Karen J. Westerfield is an American make-up artist. In 2022 she was elected business representative of the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild, the top post for the guild; she was the first Asian-American and first woman to be elected to that post.
Lori McCoy-Bell is an American hair stylist. She won a Primetime Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Hairstyling For A Single-Camera Series for her work on the television program Westworld. She also won a British Academy Film Award for the film American Hustle.
