Samuel Jordan was an early settler and Ancient Planter of colonial Jamestown. He arrived in Virginia around 1610,and served as a Burgess in the first representative legislative session in North America. Jordan patented a plantation which he called "Beggar's Bush",which later became known as Jordan's Journey. It became a safe haven and stronghold for settlers during the Second Anglo-Powhatan War that ensued after the Powhatan surprise attack of 1622.
Edmund Jenings (1659-1727) was a British politician and lawyer who held important posts in the Colony of Virginia including as the attorney general,on the Governor's Council and as acting governor,but encountered controversy and experienced financial problems in his final years.
Captain Thomas Harwood emigrated from Britain and became a soldier,landowner and politician in the Colony of Virginia. He founded a family which like him for generations often represented the area now known as Newport News,but which in his day was known as Mulberry Island,and later Warwick River and still later Warwick County. Despite coming into conflict with royal governor Sir John Harvey in 1635,and a gap in legislative service,Harwood became the 5th speaker of the House of Burgesses.
William Powell,was an early Virginia colonist,landowner,militia officer and legislator. Considered an Ancient Planter for living in the Virginia colony during its first decade,he was one of two representatives from what became James City County,Virginia in the first Virginia House of Burgesses in 1619. His former plantation,now across the James River in Surry County,Virginia is now within Chippokes State Park.
Colonel William Digges was a prominent planter,soldier and politician in the Colony of Virginia and Province of Maryland. The eldest son of Edward Digges (1620-1674/5),who sat on the Virginia Governor's Council for two decades but died shortly before Bacon's Rebellion,Digges fled to Maryland where he married Lord Calvert's stepdaughter and served on the Maryland Proprietary Council until losing his office in 1689 during the Protestant Revolution,when a Puritan revolt upset the Calvert Proprietorship. His eldest son Edward sold his primary Virginia plantation to his uncle Dudley Digges. It is now within Naval Station Yorktown. His former Maryland estate,Warburton Manor,is now within Fort Washington Park. Two additional related men with the same name served in the Virginia General Assembly,both descended from this man's uncle and his grandson Cole Digges (burgess):William Digges (burgess) and his nephew and son-in-law William Digges Jr. both represented now-defunct Warwick County,Virginia.
Richard Cocke (1597–1665) was a prominent colonial Virginia planter and politician. He established a political and social dynasty that firmly seated itself as among the most prominent in Virginia. Among his more prominent descendants are George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush,as well as professional baseball player Ryne Harper.
George Fawdon,also spelled in various sources as George Fawden,George Fawder,George Fadoin,George Faudon,George Fawdoune,George Faudown,George Fawdowne,and George Fowden,was an early Virginia colonist,landowner,militia officer,county court clerk,county clerk justice and legislative representative (politician). He served at least two terms as a burgess in the Virginia House of Burgesses in the 1640s and 1650s representing Isle of Wight County,Virginia.
The Swann's Point Plantation Site is an archaeological site near the James River in Surry County,Virginia. The Swann's Point area,located west of the mouth of Gray Creek,has a rich historic of precolonial Native American occupation,as well as significant early colonial settlements. It was first granted to Richard Pace,whose warning famously saved the Jamestown Colony during the Indian Massacre of 1622. The Paces abandoned their settlement in 1624.
Arthur Allen II,also known as Major Allen was a Virginia colonial planter,merchant,military officer and controversial politician who twice served as Speaker of the Virginia House of Burgesses. He supported Governor William Berkeley during Bacon's Rebellion and became a prominent member of the Green Spring faction opposing later royal governors.
Joseph Bridger emigrated to the Virginia colony from England where he became wealthy and known for supporting Governor William Berkeley and his successors. As would his namesake grandson and several other descendants,Bridger served in the House of Burgesses representing Isle of Wight County. Bridger also served in the legislature's upper house,the Virginia Governor's Council,and led troops against the rebels during Bacon's Rebellion in 1676 as well as in 1682,when he helped suppress the tobacco cutters.
Samuel Swannn was a planter,militia officer and politician in the Colony of Virginia and the Colony of North Carolina.

James Bray (ca.1630-1691) was a British merchant who also became an attorney,planter and politician in the Colony of Virginia,serving nearly a decade on the Virginia Governor's Council through Bacon's Rebellion (1670-1679),and later representing James City County in the House of Burgesses,although unseated when he refused to make a loyalty oath.
William Sherwood (1641-1688) was a British attorney who also became a planter,attorney general and politician in the Colony of Virginia. During Bacon's Rebellion,Sherwood alienated both sides,and later served as the colony's Attorney General until disbarred for a previous felony. He represented Jamestown and surrounding James City County in the House of Burgesses,but also had considerable landholdings in Surry County across the James River. A shareholder in the Royal African Company until his death,Sherwood became its official representative in the colony. He also held local offices in James City County,Jamestown and Surry County.
William Cole emigrated from Essex,England to the Colony of Virginia in 1618,and in 1629 was one of the two men who represented Nutmegg Quarter in the House of Burgesses.
Humphrey Harwood (ca.1649-1700) was a soldier,landowner and politician in the Colony of Virginia.
William Browne emigrated from Surrey,England to become a major planter and politician in the Colony of Virginia. He lived on the south bank of the James River at now-historic Four Mile Tree plantation,named for its distance from Jamestown and which in his tenure became part of Surry County. While his lawyer son,also William Browne,held only county offices,his grandson,also William Browne,would become a patriot in the American Revolutionary War,and serve in the Virginia House of Delegates.

Richard Lawrence was an Oxford University graduate who emigrated to the Virginia colony where after various real estate speculations,he married a wealthy widow and became a tavernkeeper in Jamestown. Lawrence became one of Nathaniel Bacon's closest confidantes during Bacon's Rebellion and briefly served in the House of Burgesses during that conflict,after which he vanished with two other men otherwise likely to have been sentenced to death for treason.
