Hergy Mayala (born October 21, 1995) is a professional Canadian football wide receiver for the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League (CFL).

College career

Mayala played college football at Connecticut. [3] He started in all regular season games as a junior and senior at Connecticut, and across his college career he totaled 113 receptions for 1,352 yards and 12 touchdowns. [4] His 113 receptions place him sixth all-time at Connecticut since Connecticut moved from the FCS to the FBS. [5]

Calgary Stampeders

Mayala was selected in the first round, eighth overall, by the Calgary Stampeders in the 2019 CFL Draft. [7] He played in his first professional game on June 15, 2019 against the Ottawa Redblacks. He scored his first professional touchdown on an eight-yard reception from Bo Levi Mitchell against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on October 11, 2019. [8] He played in 16 regular season games in 2019 where he had 38 receptions for 562 yards and five touchdowns. He did not play in 2020 due to the cancellation of the 2020 CFL season. In 2021, he played in 13 out of 14 regular season games where he recorded 29 catches for 284 yards, but no touchdowns. He became a free agent upon the expiry of his contract on February 8, 2022. [9]

Montreal Alouettes

On February 8, 2022, it was announced that Mayala had signed with his hometown team, the Montreal Alouettes. [10] On February 14, 2023, his contract expired and he became a free agent. [11]

New Orleans Breakers

On February 15, 2023, Mayala signed with the New Orleans Breakers of the United States Football League (USFL). [12] He was transferred to the team's inactive list on March 19, 2023, and activated from the suspended list on March 26. [13] [14] He was released on April 10. [15]

Montreal Alouettes (II)

Mayala re-signed with the Montreal Alouettes on May 4, 2023. [16] He played in ten games where he recorded seven catches for 115 yards before being released on August 29, 2023. [17]

Hamilton Tiger-Cats

On October 6, 2023, it was announced that Mayala had signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. [18]

Edmonton Elks

Mayala joined the Edmonton Elks in free agency on April 9, 2024. [19]

In 2005, Terry Vaughn's 1113 receiving yards combined with those of his teammates as the 2005 Montreal Alouettes became only the second team in CFL history to achieve four players all having over 1,000 yards receiving in the same season. Adarius Bowman is a former American professional gridiron football wide receiver in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was signed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders as an undrafted free agent in 2008. Bowman has also been a member Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Montreal Alouettes, and Edmonton Eskimos/Elks. He played college football at Oklahoma State. Bowman was a Grey Cup Champion and three time CFL All-Star having accumulated 652 receptions for 9,491 yards and 49 touchdowns in 141 career games.

Nikolas "Nik" Lewis is the receivers coach for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and he is a former professional Canadian football slotback who played for 15 years in the CFL. He is a two-time Grey Cup champion, winning in 2008 and 2014 with the Stampeders. In his first season, he won the CFL Rookie of the Year award, followed by five West Division All-Star and three CFL All-Star awards. He is second all-time as a Stampeder in receptions (805), receiving yards (11,250), and touchdown catches (65) behind Allen Pitts. He also has the club record for consecutive games with a reception, with 166. On August 24, 2017, Lewis became the CFL all-time leader in receptions with 1,030 catches.

The 2010 CFL season is the 57th season of modern-day Canadian football. Officially, it is the 53rd Canadian Football League season. Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton hosted the 98th Grey Cup on November 28 when the Montreal Alouettes became the first team to repeat as Grey Cup Champions in 13 years, defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders, 21–18. The league announced on its Twitter page on January 29, 2010 that the season would start on July 1, 2010. As of 2021 this is the most recent CFL regular season to start in July.
