Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting, often simply referred to as weightlifting, is a sport in which the athlete attempts a maximum-weight single lift of a barbell loaded with weight plates.

Hiromi Miyake, born 18 November 1985) is a Japanese weightlifter. Her father and coach is Yoshiyuki Miyake, who was a bronze medallist in weightlifting at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Her uncle Yoshinobu Miyake was a gold medalist in weightlifting at the 1964 and 1968 Olympics.
Iraq competed at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, which ran from October 11, 1964, to October 24, 1964. Iraq sent thirteen athletes to compete in boxing, weightlifting and track and field but did not win any medals.
Yoshinobu Miyake is a retired Japanese weightlifter and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Lieutenant. He won one silver and two gold medals at the 1960, 1964 and 1968 Olympics and finished fourth in 1972. He also won world titles in 1962, 1963 and 1965–66. Between 1959 and 1969 Miyake set 25 official world records, including 10 consecutive records in the snatch and nine consecutive records in the total. In 1993 he was inducted into the International Weightlifting Federation Hall of Fame.
The 2008 Asian Weightlifting Championships were held at Ishikawa Sports Center in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture Japan between April 26 and May 5 2008. It was the 39th men's and 20th women's championship. Much of the responsibility for the event lay with the Japan Weightlifting Association overlooked by the Asian Weightlifting Federation. The event had major significance for Asian weightlifters as the championships were the official qualifications for Weightlifting at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Siripuch Gulnoi formerly Rattikan Gulnoi is a Thai weightlifter. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the women's 58 kg. She set personal bests in both the clean and jerk and the snatch, achieving 100 kg and 134 kg respectively. She originally finished fourth, but was promoted to third and won the bronze medal after Yuliya Kalina was disqualified.
