Jongla is a Finnish start-up company, specialising mobile messaging apps. In June 2016, Jongla announced that it wants to bridge the gap between social networking services and messaging apps. [1] Jongla is targeting especially emerging markets like Africa, Southeast Asia and South America, where they are seeing the best traction. Messaging app

In June, 2016 Jongla introduced their 3rd generation app, the Jongla - Social Messenger, which introduced feature updates, brand upgrade and a new app UI. In Social Messenger, Jongla introduced the community of nearby Jongla users and an added ability to engage with user profiles with a choice of reaction like thumbs-up, smile or heart.

Jongla claims to be the world's lightest instant messaging app. The company backs up their claim with app package size comparisons. In June 2016, their APK (Android Application Package) size was 3.5MB, being one tenth of that compared to their competitor apps like WhatsApp, Messenger and Viber. [8]

Jongla has the basic messaging functions like private and group chats and sharing text, stickers, images, locations and videos. Also, anyone can join a Jongla conversation via web application called Jongla Out. Jongla is one of the few messaging apps offering voice messages with special filters which is an integrated push-to-talk voice messaging feature with access to a range of funny voice filters that alter sender's voice. Jongla has been selected as a winner of the Red Herring's Top 100 Global award 2013. [10] The company has been featured in articles by Forbes, [11] CNBC Africa, [12] Mobile Industry Review [13] and The Guardian Nigeria.

Jongla as a company

Jongla is a Finland-based company founded by Arto Boman and headquartered in Helsinki, Finland. [14] Jongla CSO is Riku Salminen and the company is owned by a group of private investors including JSH Capital Oy, Ingman Finance Oy, and Holdington Ltd Oy. [15] Chairman of the board is Henry Sjöman accompanied with board members Arto Boman and Simo Makkonen. [16]

eBuddy Instant messaging software

eBuddy is a privately held Dutch software company that offers instant messaging services. As of 2011, eBuddy reported 100 million downloads. The company's flagship service is XMS, a proprietary cross-platform instant messaging service. After some changes of ownership, the company is now again owned by its original founders, Onno Bakker and Jan-Joost Rueb.

Chikka, short for Chikka Text Messenger, was an Internet-based instant messaging application that supports free SMS or text messaging between online users and offline mobile subscribers. Chikka was released by Chikka Philippines, Inc. in the early 2000 and eventually established its connection with the country's network operators Smart Communications (2001), Globe Telecom (2002) and Sun Cellular (2004). With up to billions of messages being exchanged between online and mobile communities worldwide through Chikka, it is probably the world's first commercially successful integration of web and mobile utilities.

Kik Messenger, commonly called Kik, is a freeware instant messaging mobile app from the Canadian company Kik Interactive, available on iOS and Android operating systems.

Spinlet’s primary service is music streaming and downloads available globally via web browsers, and the Spinlet app on iOS and Android. The Spinlet platform provides the largest music catalog of licensed African and International content from content licensers such as Content Connect Africa, Africori, Symphonic Distribution, TuneCore, La Cupla Music, Deliver My Tune, and many other indies. Hike Messenger, also known as Hike Sticker Chat, was an Indian freeware, cross-platform instant messaging (IM), and Voice over IP (VoIP) application that was launched on 12 December 2012 by Kavin Bharti Mittal and is now owned by Hike Private Limited. Hike worked offline through SMS and had multi-platform support. The app registration used a standard one time password (OTP) based authentication process. Hike was estimated to be worth $1.4 billion, with more than 100 million registered users and 350 employees.

Wire Swiss GmbH is a software company with headquarters in Zug, Switzerland. Its development center is in Berlin, Germany. The company is best known for its messaging application called Wire.

Kakao is a South Korean internet company that was established in 2010. It formed as a result of a merger between Daum Communications and the original Kakao Inc. In 2014, the company was renamed Daum Kakao. In 2015 it was rebranded once more, reverting simply to Kakao.
